The SA Politics Thread Part 3

The same guy who is doing everything is his power to avoid accountability in Hammanskraal where his party governs? when is he going to face the masses there? You can't be a President and a coward at the same time.

Sounds like you are describing Eskom and the ANC.

In the DA, Helen Zille would make a president who could get **** done. She's a strong leader. Alan Winde maybe a more distant second. John wouldn't make a top 10. Can anyone actually what it is he's done to prove his leadership creds?

Helen Zille is the actual leader of DA end of the day. If John had to hypothetically take her on, he would be a goner.

Even Cyril managed to muster all his cowardly courage and go there, what does it say about President Moonshot?

And how many bodyguards did our cowardly President have to protect him from the unwashed masses?

I doubt you would be saying that if it was Malema and not Steenhuisen.

As a single possibly isolated event, Malema would get a similar treatment, but we all know that Malema is a power hungry fsckhead who will destroy this country, so the response would be slightly different if he did the same thing being late for a Lyft flight

Yes, but rather irrelevant when considering the broader challenges facing SA. It's hardly even newsworthy IMO.
Quite relevant actually, part of the problem in this country is that politicians see themselves as better than normal people. If Steenhuisen thinks that he shouldn't need to abide by departure rules the same as a normal person that is a reflection of his outlook as a politician.

And I quite like Steenhuisen and will vote DA but this was a stupid thing to do.

Imagine okes actually think John Steenhuisen is our most competent individual to be President.

Not that hard to imagine tbh. Okes worship politicians of all ages/races/colours/sexes/parties/iq's/insert adjective of choice

Or did you think making your mark for your idiot of choice made you somehow better than all the other fools?

And what's stopping President Moonshot from getting his own bodyguards and go there?

Maybe the lack of access to a multibillion rand budget... Maybe also not needing to have more bodyguards than an entire rugby squad and their reserves, and many millions of rands of posh luxury vehicles.

Perhaps. This is largely irrelevant in the grander scheme of things. The people trying to make it a big thing have likely done far worse things - like stealing or being involved in corrupt tenders.

I'm hardly going to judge a person based on one incident as well. Everyone loses their cool and acts out of character once in a while. It's perfectly human. It's weird that people expect perfect levels of behaviour from politicians and yet do not demand it from themselves or their friends.

Agree with that, we can all lose it in frustration, has he apologized for what he said though?

If he has then big respect, if he hasn't then he doesn't get to use the "out of character" excuse.

How is it out of character? This is in character given his road kill comment on MaCG. Not sure why he needs to be excused. It is perfectly okay to hold our leaders to a higher standard. He not only threw a tantrum but posted about it on social media. Seemingly kept the post up and confirmed he wasn't hacked. And when contacted by company and probably told he was out of line refused to talk about the issue with the media.

I don't think he's publicly apologised, but possibly has interacted with the Lyft CEO or management...

I am not entirely sure the whole thing is entirely out of character just yet, but so far its the first big "public" misstep of this sort I know of from him...
