Bachelor’s Degree Pass Level​

A Bachelor’s Degree Pass is the highest Matric pass level you can get. This pass level will allow you to further your studies at university, given that you meet all the other university entry requirements. In order to obtain this pass, you must have the following minimum marks:

• 40% for your Home Language
• 50% for four (4) other High Credit Subjects
• 30% for two (2) other subjects

Meeting these requirements will give you a Bachelor’s Degree Pass level and a minimum APS of 23.

This is true. But remember, every university has its own admissions requirements. So while you can get a Bachelor's pass, you might not be able to get into your institution/course of choice...

No, my bad, it's an old certificate but not 90s old, I am going to find one from the 90s with an F on it.

Bachelor of Arts (99311)

A National Senior Certificate (NSC) (Degree endorsement) with at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning,
or
a Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption or qualify for the exemption from the Matriculation Board with at least a D symbol on HG or a C symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning.
Applicants who do not comply with the above requirements, should consider applying for a lower level qualification for which they meet the statutory and additional requirements.

You'd need to write the NBTs and get the required FPS score (UCT standard, APS + NBT apparently) and have a Bachelor's pass and get 50 - 60% in English (HL or FAL).

So the pass you get on the NSC is only a provisional/initial admission to a degree, diploma or whatever...

But even a Bachelors pass wont get you into Uni because spaces are competitive. The vast majority of those in Uni would have aggregates of over 60%.

Many people with Bachelors passes are also in technical colleges because they did not make the cut.

Here, with the S pass. I see they could even bump you down to lower grade to get that important matric pass, and you ask yourself, what's all the outrage about in 2023.

It doesn't matter where it comes from, there were two matric passes, M and S, M took you to university and S did not, M had a higher requirement and S was much lower, that's where you were most likely to find an F on the certificate which meant 30%.

But you could still get an M pass with an F on your certificate and you could still study at a university.

Fact is they were both matric passes and they happened in the good old days, anything else is splitting hairs.

You asked me what the requirements for the BA are, I told you I have no idea, you proceeded to post the requirements for a Batchelor's Pass, not the requirements of a BA degree, can you see the problem or are you still lost?

Secondly, I never said anything about a 25% being acceptable in 94.

Yeah, my point, which is at real risk of being lost is that passing a subject with 30% is not an ANC thing, contrary to all the good old days stories, it has always been a thing.

Second point, just like you could not pass matric with 30% back in the good old days, you still cannot pass matric with 30% now.

People should stop with the nonsense of "in my time you needed to get 50% in all subjects to pass matric" or any other similar fables, it's boring.
