The SA Politics Thread Part 3

The EFF collapse in KZN is big since it's the second most populous province and they achieved around 10 percent of the vote there. If they go down to 5-6% in KZN it will have a dramatic effect on their overall vote share. EFF struggles a lot in the three of the four biggest provinces in SA (WC, EC, KZN).

We can hope the EFF is finding their new ceiling at the 5-6% range... it will possibly fundamentally alter the permutations for next years elections.

I also think the EFF is likely to become a rural party much like the ANC over time, if we can start uplifting Urban areas with decent governance then the EFF will become less and less relevant.

No.

EFF may only get rural support in Limpopo as that is where Malema is from but that is about it. Their support comes from a young demographic who dont view the ANC and DA as options, hence they tend to do very well in University politics. They rely on urban support more than anything. They would probably beat IFP in KZN University politics.

Young people (as is the case all over the world) vote at far lower rates than older generations, which further harms the electoral prospects of the EFF. I also find it funny when a political party aims for a "youthquake" which never quite arrives. You relying on the most unreliable part of the electorate? Good luck...

That is the current state yes, and a University is generally the breeding ground for new politicians in this country, but they are not an indication of how voting behaviours work in this country.

If the urban areas are uplifted with decent governance and jobs start being created and the economy grows, the EFF by its very nature will become less relevant.

Not exactly, EFF is more of a personality based party. As much we many of us dont like Malema, he is a crafty politician and very charasmatic, hence has outwitted and outlasted so many in the political arena.

I see the EFF collapsing slowly the moment he is either forced out or leaves for whatever reason.

It will be like the former party MF which had big support from Indians but slowly collapsed when Rajbansi passed away. Rajbansi like Malema was also a crafty and controversial politician.

Some here argue that educated people make the best voting choices which isin't true. Sizwe Mpofu Walsh is smarter than almost of us here (lets just be honest) and has a PHD from Oxford yet has views which go against the bulk of Mybb.
No, he isn't. He did a mickey mouse degree.

You are just jealous because he did something you could never.
Sure buddy, if you say so. When he has actually studied something that contributes towards science and not ramble on in his own echo chamber ill concede. Political science, what a laugh.

Oh I see the EFF collapsing spectacularly when Julius is no longer involved.

And yes he is a crafty politician, but his politics of choice is populism and preying on peoples fears, and if the country is growing and the job market is getting better he will have less room to maneuver in that space and become less relevant.

A 3 year undergraduate degree that contributes to humanity, is far more valuable than a PhD in a nonsense subject.

We may as well hand out PhDs in garden engineering. Research topics can include "the optimum seasonal grass length" and "waste disposal techniques of dry leaves". You know, just to make people who don't have a PhD in it jealous...

This would actually be in some science or engineering, lol.

LOL, it's a field called agronomy

It's still nonsense. I remember mining engineering students being mocked because their entrance requirements were far lower than the other engineering fields. And mining engineering still provides far more value than political science...

When you have a degree in "how to dig a giant hole in the ground and make sure it doesn't fall in"

If the EFF's pothole filling exploits are anything to go by, none of them went anywhere near a Civil Engineering course of any sort.
