The SA Politics Thread Part 6

Yeah, I think the cadre deployment one will be a step too far for the ANC currently, since they haven't actually accepted the reality that they face.
That and the devolution of powers to provinces. They'll never accept that.
Cadre deployment might be contentious, but devolution is already in the Constitution. It's just the matter of actually doing it.

14 days from election result declaration to form government... The first week is almost over...
That's only electing President and Speaker. The President has a lot of time to put a cabinet together depending on negotiations.

I will be unpopular for this but I think DA should participate in the GNU (unless MK is there, EFF is also undesirable but negotiations can happen).

Demand DP position, police and transport ministries. If DA can go full blast in those ministries and properly deliver, it'll break the stigma once and for all about "IF DA COME TO POWER, APARTHEID COMES BACK". Country also gets to improve in those aspects.

IFP will most likely get speaker. ANC holds finance ministry with Godongwana.
The police are part of national security, highly unlikely that will simply be given to the DA or any other party, you are more likely to get the deputy President than getting the police ministry.
As others have said the most likely thing is for the DA to push for parliament positions, if the wanted the police but know they can't get them, ask for the portfolio committee on police.

The same way the DA has been operating in the local governments where they used being a big party to get the important positions like mayor and finance, is what us going to happen here, at most it would be the deputy minister, which I think is a very useless position.

That's if they do want cabinet positions in the first place, depending on how the negotiations pan out.

If they do, they might agree on infrastructure related portfolios like transport, because that what the DA is good at. And everyone comes out looking good...
