The SA Politics Thread Part 6

what about the court of public opinion?

there's never been an outcry quite this loud against other MPs for saying worse, the voting public has the same authority (or lack thereof) over all MPs regardless of which party they represent
So you reckon the DA should just look the other way until noise dies down?

And then lied about it being a deep fake.

Why would you lie if you didn't think you did anything wrong, instead of defending why you did it?
Yeah, that was an error of judgement, a well known tactic to implicate a person, ask them a question and allow them to lie, then use that against him.

Perhaps he wasn't aware as most people are, but once you are caught out, whether it's at work or in politics and you know it's probably going to lead to a disciplinary hearing, you don't have to answer any questions regarding the matter, your superior cannot fire you for refusing to answer, it's either they charge you and you answer there or nothing happens.

He should have asked for time to consult and then someone would have advised him, but people make the mistake of thinking the conversation you are having with your superior is done in confidence, tell me the truth so that I can help you, it isn't.

oh no, the DA is doing what it thinks needs to be done, and in the context of a fragile GNU it probably must be done

that does not change the fact that many others have done worse and faced no consequences whatsoever, not from parliament, their party or the SAHRC

exhibit A (of many more no doubt):

or put it this way:
- it is not so much the facts of the incident itself, but rather the current reality of the South African government that determines the DA's best course of action
- if the DA, hypothetically, had 50.1% of the vote the correct course of action would not be to pander to the court of public opinion, but rather tell the racist radicals on twitter to GFY

What are you saying now? he created the video but did not release it? How did the person who leaked it get hold of video?

Is it like those rare and unreleased albums?
He did not create nor release the video that is currently being shared. I implore you to activate your grey matter and see whether you can spot the obvious.

So the internet archive is lying, because your grey matter says so. Cool...

Wait, are you relying on the technicality that the video took parts of Renaldo's OG vid? And? What changes exactly?

It's not exactly as if they randomly spliced the slurs in there as if they were absent from the OG video...

Isn't the error of judgement recording yourself years spewing racist kak for "likes" to your podbro fanbase? It's not like there haven't been many people telling him this is a bad idea and not conducive to building a broad political base.

Its always that "few bad apples" argument when its someone on your own team caught out

Eish! Somebody took his video and EDITED it. Ergo he did not create that video. Think man!
The original has been shared in its full length. The iol one was edited or more accurately condensed to only highlight those sections.

What others have done outside the DA has no bearing on the case. SAHRC jumping on the bandwagon is secondary to DA's decision to suspend and subject him to disciplinary action.

So you think DA should sweep this under the carpet? What about their non-white constituents?

It is, but the trick is to make sure you don't have other errors of judgment after you are caught out on the first one, it just make things worse.
