So this is Joburg,

The ANC have EFF, Good, AIC, Al Jamal plus the rebels/traitors they bought off. The EFF are a wild card as usual, but that gives them plus maybe 2/3 other of the small parties. So, this only works if some of the current coalition do indeed vote against their party.

No, I don't see it happening, nationally. The JHB coalition is unstable with Cope there. The rest of the UF governments are fine I think with Cope. Different agreements, etc.
COPE have one seat and the coalition would work even if they remove that mercenary, but it needs the rest of the partners to vote for the current coalition. The PA are part of the coalition now so they shouldn't need COPE.

Yup. So if councillors from ACDP and IFP go rogue again, then JHB is screwed.
If money has changed hands then those councilors will likely vote the same way. I wonder what the EFF have been promised, the ANC need them for this to work and the EFF have their councilors on a tight leash so whatever happens would have Malema's nod.

Yeah, if they haven't removed those councillors yet anyway. Luckily they're all PR, so no need to worry over by-elections.

Dunno. But I think this EFF/ANC cooperation stems out of Malema/EFF acting like a jilted lover.

Since they expected the DA to grovel to them over NMB and to keep the other UF areas. Add the DA shooting down the premature MONC against Rama... And reaffirming their stance over EFF-coalitions...
