The ANC is bleeding in KZN as much as everywhere else if you ask me...

We had a community meeting recently and what used to be largely older white people attending and bitching, was a very mixed crowd and all were unhappy about the state of things.

I am really hoping for a change in KZN. I don't stay there; but as mentioned before, it has such beauty and such potential. Going to Balito again in November, because my wife (who is British and has been in SA for 7yrs) just loves that place.

As a resident; do you feel the iFP can do any better? They're largely unknown to me; and I see the used to govern the province, way, back when.

Honest answer is I'm unsure. I think they will possibly do better purely because they got kicked out, and are back in again and it would be a signal that power is not permanent..

BUT if the IFP come out on top, I see the political killings in this province going through the roof unfortunately.

Agreed. But the places where ANC are getting hardest hit are in Gauteng and KZN. With North West and Northern Cape as honourable mentions.

Same here. Tbh I'm hoping all provinces can throw away the ANC, but it's sadly unrealistic.

SA in general has both beauty and shittons of potential.

Co-ask. So far I know the IFP is pro-free markets, pro-federalism and anti-ANC. From what I've seen on Twitter, it seems the IFP is slowly but surely doing things where they govern.

Yeah, remnants of what went on during the dying years of the old regime (late 80s to mid 90s).

It also depends on who gets into the national government. I think if the UF get in, they might crack down more on such killings.

Oh if the UF get enough clout at the national level then I fully expect policing of those sorts of things to be stepped up significantly...

Agreed. I mean I think ASA, VF+, IFP and DA are in support of "federal police" (decentralizing the SAPS). The problem will be others who'll be part of or cooperate with the UF come 2024.

It will always depend on how such a thing is implemented... for me one of the big things that needs to be "dealt" with is this splintering of law enforcement in this country... Traffic Police, Highway Police, Metro Police, SAPS, etc etc.. and they don't all report into the same department, so you get this "Its not my jurisdiction" crap.

Nothing exceptional they are doing in KZN, they are really not too different to the ANC over there, that's why their voters are able to seamlessly move between the two parties, I am confident that you wouldn't find anything different even if you were to put the municipalities they govern side by side with that of the ANC, KZN is a bad performer in year in, year out in the AG's reports.

Twitter is nice because that's where you can put your best foot forward with nice pictures that are a drop in the ocean as far as the rest of the picture is concerned, no one puts pictures of flowing sewage on their Twitter.

It's still worth hoping that maybe they might do something better if they take over but it's not like they haven't been in government before or are not in government now, in fact the Prince from the Great House of Phindangene was the leader of the homeland from the good old days, I can tell you now that KZN is a s***hole compared to other homelands like Bophuthatswana, probably Venda or Lebowa as well.

Perhaps they can merge highway and traffic police. And merge the Metro Police with the provincial SAPS.

But I can agree with you. I still maintain that if policing is devolved, policing would become more effective.

Maybe I'm a bit "old school" in a way, a police officer should be a police officer and not tied to dealing with certain types of crimes. SAPS officers should be pulling over traffic violations, and Metro officers should be able to deal with murder/etc etc

Highway and traffic police already fall under one department of transport, no?

Not sure. But what I mean is to merge the two types of police: so that there's only one type of police regarding general traffic and highways, etc.
