Despite a 'dishonest campaign' from Herman Mashaba's ActionSA, the DA outclassed the party during by-elections on Wednesday, according to the DA's national spokesperson Cilliers Brink.

Despite a "dishonest campaign" from Herman Mashaba's ActionSA, the DA outclassed the party during by-elections on Wednesday, according to the DA's national spokesperson, Cilliers Brink.

"The DA still received more votes than its two closest rivals (ActionSA and the Freedom Front Plus) combined, despite the by-election being triggered by the resignation of then-DA ward councillor, Hannes Coetzee," he said.

Brink believes ActionSA "induced" Coetzee to do so.

What does it mean foe SA, though?

If ANC were to drop below 50% - I am not sure how that works out for us

Depends on where below 50% they fall?
They'll have to form coalitions regardless of where below 50% they fall unless they fall so much that not even a coalition can save them.

If that happens the likelihood is great that an opposition coalition could throw out the ANC.

EFF are unknown, but they aren't quite buddy-buddy with the ANC. ANC actually rejected a national coalition with EFF last year, so I doubt the ANC/EFF thing will happen.

If ANC were to stay quite close to 50%, then they'll probably coalesce with GOOD, Al Jama-ah and NFP to stay in power. Otherwise, bye-bye ANC gov.

Nah, so long as the ANC + EFF can get over the 50% you will see the ANC and the EFF suck each other off to both stay in power and get into power.

So, essentially, ANC will still be in power, after 2024 elections. Just, with more corrupt people at the trough.

ANC + EFF being over 50% - seems like a done deal. No way ANC drops 10%.

I honestly wouldn't be so sure of that...

I very much doubt that the ANC could shoot itself in the foot even more than it does currently.
