The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

So far I have found no bugs at all and have been really impressed with this ROM.
Seems to also have Great battery life compared to before.

Here are a couple of noticable changes:

1) Asphalt 4 game is installed and Dice Game
2) A list of sample clips like tutorial, kungfu panda & transformers....
3) A newer managable widgets interface including yahoo/goggle/CNN Rss link....
4) 2 New program - Favourite setting and Share Pix
5) Volume control now in Dial mode instead of slider bar.

Just remember when editing the update.exe file, it is case sensitive so remember to use caps.
And backup any data because everything will be gone exept for whats on the storage card.

I am trying to get my 3g ip address on the omnia? anyone know how to do this?
How do i get to the command line on this or how do i get some kind of network utilites on it?

Maybe use Omnia to access one of those webpage will detect and show your IP?
 
ended up doing that on the firewall to get my ip :) thanks though,

having issues setting up a vpn on this though? seems like everything is correct yet it wont establish the connection? Do i need to change my apn with vodacom perhaps? I cant see any reason why this is not working?

You probably need to be on the unrestricted APN. To get the IP in future load Task Manager - v3.1 it has:
-Ping utility
-IP config
-Net Stats
-Registry Editor
-cut/copy/paste included
-reg file extension associated
-find returns all occurences
-import reg files
-export to reg files
 
Anyone know of any stores (other than online) or dealers selling the invisibleShield for the Omnia in JHB, near the East rand preferably?

I am trying to go from JCHJ3 to the DZIA5 from Malaysia.
I have edited the Update.exe file as you mentioned but cant seem to get it right...

Any tip to go from JCHJ3 to DZIA5?

If you can give me a little more info on where you are getting stuck and what sort of errors you getting then I can help walk you through the process.

As I mentioned before, the 3 main rquired steps are to:
1. Edit the Update.exe file(USE CAPS).
2. Change you hone to Singapore using the dial pad code.
3. Edit the registry on the phone to be a software version previous to DZIA5.

Let me know how you come allong as this is a definate worthwhile upgrade at your own risk obviously :).
 
thanks for that. I will give it a try tonight and see what I get. I may have changed my phone to Malaysia instead of Singapore

I changed update.exe to have the i900XX to a i900DZ

I changed the phone registry to a DZHG3

any ideas from that?

If I remember correctly then changing update.exe to i900DZ is incorrect because the aim is for update.exe to match your phone version.
Therefore you would need to change update.exe to i900JC.
The reason is that if you go to version info on your phone you should see the phone or PDA version being i900JC***.
To get there you go to settings and click on version.

The Registry edit changes the software version.
Update.exe checks country and software.

Regedit on your phone takes care of software version check.(must be version below what you are upgrading to)
Editing update.exe takes care of phone country version check.(Must match your phone, i.e JC)

Still no luck

My phone is as follows:

PDA: i900JCHJ3/JCHJ3
PHONE: i900JCHJ3

I set the registry to DZIA2 and hex edit update.exe to have the i900DX to have a DZ

there is a line above this with i900XX in it

Am i perhaps editing the wrong one?

Me again Neweal..

My phone is as follows:

PDA: i900JCHJ3/DZHG3 (after regedit)
PHONE: i900JCHJ3

I edited the Update to be

i900XXAA to i900JCAA
Just below that there is a i900DXAA

I also set the phone to be singapore using *#1546792*# as explained earlier. (prior to all the changes)

Still no luck

I edited the wrong occurance of i900DX

Looks very good so far.

Great, glad to hear its sorted out.
I definetly find this new ROM to be way more stable than the South African very outdated ROM.
 
Typical apathetic attitude of customer service in SA.
It would cost them nothing to publish a ROM with all the Latest updates from the parent company overseas for SA or at least put a copy of the Asian one on our link on the update site.

Anyhow - its great to have resources like this to let us get the latest and greatest.

100% agreed.
I plan to keep my eyes open for some newer updates because there are some posts around the net about some great new additions that Samsaung has in development and I doubt that we will have any luck with Samsung SA.

Best part about doing these updates is that after doing it once, there shouldnt be any hasstles applying these updates in future.
 
- How Will this affect my warranty?

- If my phone gets bricked during the process, can I bring it back to life myself? Or take it to Samsung?

- Can I do this on Vista (SP1 32-bit) ?

I have absolutely no idea how this effects the warranty even thought you are using an original Samsung update.

I have no idea if the phone can be braught back to life if it gets bricked.

You may be able to do this update using Vista but since everyone else is using XP to update their phones, I would rather stick to doing it the way thats proven to work just to minimise any chances of bricking.

Once again, This is done at your own risk!!!
