The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Sounds like the screen is faulty, you'll probably have to take it to samsung/vodacare for repairs...

You have tried a hard reset? : Follow the guideline here:

1. Press reset pin button ONCE (do not hold)
2. Once you see the Samsung Omnia appears on the screen, immediately press the SEND and END key simultaneously
3. Then the screen appears asking you whether you are sure to format
4. Press SEND to format or END to cancel

Hey.

Thanks for all the help... I can safetly say i have done everything posted on the internet but take it to the SP... did hard reset, did firmware upgrade, even changed the registry on the phone... did everything.. wondering if maybe someone else had an idea, or had the same issue...

Bluetooth handsfree car kit screen error

Hi

Anyone manage to fix teh issue withe the omnia handfree with teh bmw car kit whereby the screeen switches on every 30 seconds draing teh battery? Otherwise it works perfectly. Tytn never did this!

Any idea one can create a button or link that tweaks the registry on pairing to sort this out???

sorry guys. what do you do when your omnia freezes on the start up windows mobile screen?

There is a firmware update available from Samsung.
http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/omnia/index.jsp
Has anyone doen this, and if so, what issues does it fix.

Tried to download the update, but the page will not accept my version number, which is JBHH1 (PDA - i900XXHH1/JBHH1, Phone - i900BUHH1)
Anyone else having trouble, and what are your version numbers?

OK, just read the previous posts about the Vodacom firmware, guess I can't upgrade just yet, or is it perhaps available? Anyway to by-pass this. Would'nt mind getting rid of the vodafone branding.

One thing I can highly recommend for those that are willing to do it...... "AT THEIR OWN RISK" of course, is to load the newest official DZIA5 firmware from Singapore.
I found the phone to be allot better after this update.

My reasoning behind working out just how to do it, is that I believe that the support for the Omnia from Samsung in South Africa is absolutly shocking and way, way behind the rest of the world and the only way to get the most out of our expensive phones is to be able to forget about the local morons and their excuses and rely on the overseas support and updates.

As long as you follow the correct steps then this is actualy very easy to do.

Before doing the Singapore update, I first gave the South African update a try and never realy saw any improvement besides for 1 major fix.
I would have to reset my phone about 3 times a day because often the screen would remain black after coming out of any sort of standby.

Thanks, any problems getting garmin working after installing DZIA5?

Absolutely no problems at all getting garimin working.
In fact, all I did was launch the app as I did when I first got the phone and worked straight away without the need to re-register.

Thanks, I am trying to find the DZIA5 setup. I am currently on the latest SA official JCHJ3, did you need to be on a newer version before upgrading to this one?

Nope you don't have to be on any newer version but therer are a few steps that you would have to take before you will be able to do the upgrade.

Step 1. You have to install a regedit app onto your phone and edit a registry Key.

Step 2 You have to type a few commands into your phone to make the phone think that it was baught in Singapore.

Step 3. You have to download the original ROM update for XP from the Samsung site and use a hex editor to edit 2 letter to match you phone version.

Step 4. Make sure that you have Activesync and the Modem drivers installed.

Step 5. Update.

I am no expert but I after allot of reading I did manage to do all this very easily.
I cant remember exactly where and which steps I followed because I looked at allot of different sites before doing this so as not to end up with a bricked phone.

Give me a little time and ill try to find all the links and post back.

At the bottom of the first post you will find a download for 3 files needed to do this:
Reg Editor for you phone
HEX Editor for the PC
Modem Drivers

The reason for having to go through this whole mission is basically because the update is region locked and what you are doing is just making the update verify that your phone is the correct region.

Just remember that this is all at your own risk!!!
