The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Hey guys,
I had the same questions as you about the ROM updates and the like.

Go on over to page 32/post 469 of this thread and you'll see zanderza's guide to updating the firmware. I did it and it's worth it. It is done at your own risk though. I have no idea what impact on warranty it has and there is a possibility of bricking your phone. There is also plenty of info over at MoDaCo. I would suggest reading up on as much as you can before doing it... but that's like saying "read the instruction manual before you use the product" :)

I installed Manilla 2D but now have 2 problems:

- The "ok" button in the top-right corner of the screen no longer works.

- I cannot install Garmin Mobile XT (gives an error after clicking on "I Agree").

Is there any way to manually set a shortcut to an .exe file in the "Programs" tab of Manilla2D? The program is not listed in the programs list.

I stayed away from the M2D ROMs... didn't interest me at all so I can't help out. Why not read through and ask on the forum? I'm asuming you got it from MoDaCo.

Edit: Personally I found the SPB Mobile Shell much nicer than M2D, and the new version 3 is really really good. So good infact that I don't ever go back into the Sansung interface.

Also remember that there's word on the street that Windows Mobile 6.5 is going to be released on the 11 May, which would explain why there's been no more new official ROMs from Samsung since February. Personally, I'm waiting to see what's going to happen. I have a feeling that there will be an official WM 6.5 ROM released for the Omnia.

I just flashed the Beta WM6.5 (21210) with M2D/Titanium by Shokka9.

Very nice system (looks), great speed and memory management.

Any bugs yet? garmin working? looks nice btw.

Garmin XT 5.00.20 works, tried. No extra settings needed.

Only bug I would say is that you need to follow some procedures after you flash to ensure the settings (eg, network operator) are correctly loaded, but it's simple and clearly instructed on the thread.

Great! did you have to load DXIA5 before loading Shokka9s rom?

Older apps compatible with WM6.5 ?

I think the changes between WM6.5 and 6.1 are cosmetic. Had a few programs worked in 6.1, still works in 6.5.

And I had programs that's designed for WM 2003 but worked in WM 6.1 before I switched to Omnia. :p

Oh, finger mouse is not working properly in 6.5, none of the current ROM had it worked.

I loaded SPB Mobile Shell 3 yesterday and so far its brilliant. I used the 2 version a while back but didn't like it much and have also been using M2D for a while now. I decided to wait for a official release of WM 6.5 before upgrading. I see that there is a ROM with SPB Mobile Shell 3 included if anyone is interested.

Does the new SPB shell use a lot of phone battery ?

I had the previous version of SPB installed and original vodafone firmware. My battery used to last about half a day:eek: About 2 weeks ago I updated my firmware with the latest South African release and my battery life has improved A LOT (battery lasts about 3 days)

SPB3, looks really nice and thinking about installing the shell just worried about the battery life of my phone.

Don't know yet, I keep it hooked up to my PC most of the time. I do suspect that you will see a significant drop in battery life because you wouldn't be able to put it down for the first couple days.

I just flashed my phone to DZIA5 official rom. Its OK, I will loadit with spb3 later. Does anybody know how to change the two default keys on the today screen at the bottom. My phone has on the left "Phone" and right "Main Menu", I want to change "Phone" to "Contacts". Thanks in advance guys :)

Thanks I used a program called softkeyremap.exe

Very simple. I must say, I'm impressed with DZIA5, battery life is good, 19 hours after charge and I still have 5 bars, to top it up I played music and videos for like an hour or so.:)
Great, what else makes this rom worth it?

Better Battery Life(I'm on 4 bars now:)
More Widgest
More finger friendly
Additional Games(Asphalt4,Dice)
New Interface for Calculator
More Camera Functions
Enhanced Menu
Google Launcher
Google Maps
Podcasts
Share pix
Task Switcher, Task Manager(Revised)

I made an upgrade from the original vodafone rom that I got from vodacom, so DZIA5 is a big leap for me. I must say the battery life is insane :D. I'm happy for now
