The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Okay, so after using my Omnia for a day or so, I've decided to sell it on again.

While I absolutely love the phone, I'm simply finding that my productivity is too low when I use it - entering text, for instance, takes longer than I had anticipated. You can see my ad here:

The phone itself is fantastic - but I really need much faster access to things like my calendar, etc. I also need to be able to input text MUCH faster, and not be bothered with a stylus... So I'll probably go for the Nokia E71 at this stage - but I need to sell my Omnia first!

Dude.. Why would you sell it??!! You going for a phone with a slide out qwerty keyboard again? Is typing on the screen that bad? I have the HTC TYTN I now and i also absolutly love the keyboard, but the phone is a bit big for me.. I dont mind losing the keyboard but i would still like to use the qwerty input on the Omnia even if its on the screen, but if its as slow as you say, should i be looking at another phone?

Push email

What you guys using for push email?? I'm using emoze and it works like a charm with my gmail account.

Anyone found some music recognition software that works on WM 6? I know the iPhone uses Shazam, but it doesn't seem to have a version for WM..

The E71 is the successor to the E61 (large, ugly Nokia). The E71 is relatively small, sleek, stylish - and has a QWERTY keyboard (not a slide out keyboard, but a full, fixed one). And, having now used the E71 for a couple of days, I can happily report that the keys are entirely big enough. My productivity is MUCH better with this device.

With that said (and I realise that this thread is about tips and tricks, not rants or reviews - so I'll keep it short), I must admit that I've used many Nokia symbian devices in the past. So I might be a bit biased. I really wanted the Omnia VERY badly, but I was VERY disappointed after using it for a single day. I just found the thing cumbersome - sure, the touch screen sounds nice. But in practice I found it somewhat tough to use. And I couldn't cope with a stylus - so it had to go! Sold it quickly enough, though!

Hi guys. I must admit (to my shame) that I fell for the Omnia. Hook, line and sinker. I went to find out about the N82 this weekend and when I saw the omnia and all it's accessories, and on learning that the N82 has no stock right now, I just could not resist the Omnia. Wow, what accessories! Anyway, when I go to the storage capacity of the phone, the memory card shows 7,382mb available, but the front screen shows 42mb? How can this be? Isn't the phone also equipped with a 8GB?

I've taken mine to MTN to have them sort it out. They don't even seem to know what is going on. I even tried to copy some music onto the phone, but it says memory full! Something is not right. They are going to credit me with the phone and I can get another phone. Whichever comes first I'll upgrade to - N82 or the Omnia. I just love the extras that comes with the Omnia - car charger, hands-free, etc! And the Garmin works like a charm. ALMOST makes me forget the brilliant camera phone the N82 has!!!

i see the same thing!!

The 7.382mb free memory is the Device memory, which totals somewhere around 90mb. This is the default location for programmes to be installed to aswell as MyDocuments it seems. The phone then has a furth 8Gb Storage memory and another 8Gb on the Storage card. Programmes can also be installed here and it is best to copy you music to these locations.
I am still looking for a way to have my E-mail stored to the external storage, after one sync with outlook, the phone fell over and died, had to kill all the e-mail and deleted items to revive the phone.

Fuzzy, so where on the actual handset do we see the 8gigs for the phone + another 8 gigs for the SD card?

Go to Settings - System - Memory - Storage Card , you will see 'My Storage' that is the onboard 8gb and then 'Storage Card' that is the 8gb SDHC.

First of all...great thread!!!

I am looking for a software, that will allow me to manage my phone (create contacts, sms's, ect)...but will also give me an option to backup everything to my computer.

I really like the MITs Wizard 3.0 BUT, i need an option to sms directly from the software + add/modify contacts....(like an application called Jeyo)

Basicely... a combination between Jeyo and MITs Wizard 3.0.

Did anyone try using OxyCube?

Thanks,
Bar1

I downloaded for HTC S710 - seems to be working fine for me.

Anyone got MXit working on the Omnia? Which version do u use?

Download the windows mobile version...
works fine...however, sometimes it will crash
after rotating the screen and you wont be able to login for a few minutes.
