The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Has anyone had a problem with the screen not coming on when you press a button?

I have to reset the phone for the screen to come back on.

Killer, I just press the middle button (the one that controls the mouse) and it wakes up fine?

Question: With the new MTN Anytime contracts, I was told that in order to find out what my balance/airtime left is, i need to dial some number and get a pin from the call center, and only then can someone tell me my balance? Surely there is an easier way to check how much airtime you have used so far?

HandyMap AI Gold alternative to the Garmin Mobile XT GPS software.

I found that HandyMap AI Gold doesn't work with the phone unless you use a program called PortSplitter and then use the following settings.

The best way to have HandyMAP working with the i900 by using the PortSplitter.
Install HandyMAP Ai 3D, install PortSplitter.
Set the Windows Mobile settings to program: COM8, hardware: COM9 and baud 4800.
Select [START] from the Home screen
Then select [Settings]
Then select [System]
Then Select [GPS]
Set Program: COM8 and Hardware: COM9 and Baud 4800

Run PortSplitter, Input ---> COM8: (type this in)
Output ---> COM6:
Then click ADD
Check the AUTOSTART function and press START SPLITTER.
This will start automatically whenever you open the application on a later time.

Then start HandyMAP Ai 3D,
Tool--->GPS/Track--->
Select [by user] set to com 6 and baudrate 4800

That's all.

It always works (even without soft reset)

What tips/tricks/apps do you guys have to share?

Is garmin not good on Omnia? Handymap AI Gold is only pretty interface in navigation, but the speed and usability is not as good as Tomtom on my current PPC phone. But good to know it also works on Omnia.

I love Garmin. I use it all the time :) it eats my battery though - but that what the car charger is included for :)

My screen also goes blank for some or other reason, and no amount of button pressing seems to bring it alive and I have to restart it. Not sure what that is all about?

I've had my Omnia for 3days now, and im very very pleased with it.. Works like a charm..
The speed is amazing compared to my HTC TYTN I.
Also the amount of memory is great! (Just waiting for a stripped version of WM6.1, there is too much bloatware and i hate the vodacom branding! Rom cookers, start slicing and dicing them roms!)
Screen is very nice. Size is nice and slim.
Haven't had any problems with the phone as of yet. Only thing that is going to take time to get use to is the on screen keyboard..

Guys, you must get S2U2 for this phone! I recommend it! Keeps the screen locked and does it automatically!

What is S2U2?
S2U2 (Slide2Unlock2) is a simple lock/unlock application which has the iPhone style slide unlocking. It can be used as a screensaver while you don't use your device. And it's has a CallerID function (but some devices may not work, so please try it first); S2P control plugin; and volume control.

Download
QVGA CAB file (for QVGA, WQVGA & square devices) < im using the QVGA one :D

Enjoy!

Anyone managed to find an original spare battery for the Omnia? The ones on Ebay are all fake cheap crap.

Has anyone found covers, tv out cables for the Omnia. I need to get a cover quickly as my plastic has come off now and I don't want my beautiful phone scratched!

Mine only fills part of the screen and freezes after processing the song. And there is no way to restart it other than install/uninstall

use the virtual mouse, and you'll be back at the main screen.

What battery life are you getting with the Omnia?

Mine lasts nothing more than 24 hours with minimal use. This normal?

From the Omnia reviews I saw the bettery life is pretty good (I am getting mine sometime this week), maybe you have something running in the background like Wifi/Bluetooth, programs you didn't close off properly which resulted in the short battery cycle?

Remember its a WinMo operating system device, so if you're getting 24hrs battery life I think its pretty good
