The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Pairing with blue tooth device

I'm struggling to pair my Omnia with Supertooth Light (handsfree for car). Has anyone experienced pairing problems with the omnia. My HTC Diamond paired immediately so did all my iMates previously.

Help is urgently required Please!! and thanks

TIP: shaking the phone will cause a web page to refresh.

Customisation & 'Samsung Today 2' green Settings menu

When the ST2 (Samsung Today 2) items are selected for the Today screen, it has a green Settings menu that I cannot find anywhere else. E.g. If i select ST1 for the Today screen, there is no way to get to that green Settings menu. THis is different to the purple Settings menu in that the green one contains the WiFi, USB, Flashlight, Flight Mode, Motion options, etc...
<update>OK, no worries. I have managed to find all necessary settings hidden within the WinMo menus, so i guess I will forget about the Green Settings menu now :) </update>

Ideally if I could customise the ST1 screen and add that green Settings menu?

Also, plz if anyone knows where to get a screen protector for the Omnia?

[Edit] What version of Opera is installed on the Omnia by default? Is it a version of Opera Mini?
And how do I tell when I am using the browser or email if it is using Wi-Fi or 3G for data transmission?
<update>OK, it's Opera Mobile that is factory installed. I've installed Opera Mini, but it seems a bit dumb and doesnt seem to have tabbed browsing windows as an option! <update>
TIA!

Saw your questions in the N82 vs Omnia thread - but will answer them here since it's more applicable to this thread as you mentioned hehe

The way I make sure it's using WiFi and not GPRS, is simply by looking at the Connectivity icon next to the signal strength icon. When GPRS connects a balloon usually pops up saying it's connecting via GPRS. Just be sure you setup your Wifi connection to connect to the Internet, else it wont use it even if it's on.

The browser is Opera Mobile 9.5 as far as I know. If you want Opera Mini, just download the suggested jar verion on their. I prefer preinstalled one though, but I guess it uses more data - which is fine if you're connecting via WiFi :P

On the camera, I agree with you that the photos are way too overexposed. I found that using the default colour setting (i.e. not candle light, beach, sports etc modes) works best. Night shots as you said, is a no no with the LED flash. The LED works better as a torch than anything else :P

Does anyone else have a problem with loosing GPRS settings? When I go to the Internet (I don't use this very often), it doesn't find the settings and says cannot connect. Then I have to restart my Omnia and only then does it connect.

And if anyone finds a cover / tv cable, let me know. I've had my first small scratch :(

Yes, I am experiencing the same problem. Today I couldnt receive mms, I then just go back and click thru the settings and then it works fine. Weird.

To set your own mp3 text tones, you need to copy the tone thats required. Go back to your home screen. From there press the red house key and then press the media album key.

If the screen is empty keep pressing the up key until you cannot go any further. Enter the windows folder (making sure the tunes item is pressed) and scroll all the way down to the bottom. There you should be able to see all the message alert tones. Now press menu, then edit and then paste. Now your mp3 tone should be there. You then have to go to the notifications and you should now be able to select your tone. HOWEVER, BE WARNED IF IT IS A LONG TONE/SONG YOU CANNOT STOP IT UNTIL IT HAS FINISHED.

This is brilliant. If you have an MP3 tone on your memory card / storage card, just click and hold for a few seconds. It pops up a menu and you can select it as a ring tone. You don't have to physically copy to your Ringtone menu. it does it all for you!

Anyone know how to change this stupid alarm tones?

I have the same problem...but you don't have to restart the phone.
you can disconnect the gprs/3g/hsdpa by clicking on the icon on top and clicking disconnect.

I have the feeling it's an MTN issue and not the phone.

Tks for da feedback :) W.r.t. Opera Mini, if i am not mistaken, the Omnia or i900 does not appear as one of the supported Samsung models on the Opera site.

GUYS, this is a big one. Customisation of the Today screen, etc... What's the asnwer? Do we have to whip out a WinMo SDK and get programming to customise it or what? Sorry that I haven't read the manual yet :p

Second Camera

Hey guys,

Just got the omnia over the weekend so I'll be asking alot.

1. Can I use the second camera except for video calls? ie. can I activate and use it without making a video call?
2. How do I activate the middle "mouse" key to act as n mouse?

Thanks

Software

Hey,

Anyone had any success with OMNIA using the following software?

- Samsung PC Studio 3?
- MOBILedit!

Or can we just using Activesync for transferring etc?

Regards

iTalk told me as Omnia is in such a big demand they are out of stock (ordered on Saturday), they are expecting stock today (I called them this morning) and will come back to me when they have it and dispatch my phone.....I am still waiting......Thanks to 'Mobile Solution'/Aka fake MTN shop in JHB Rosebank for wasting 2 weeks of my time and do not tell me they don't have stock, otherwise I got my phone long already.

Nope, I'm, still on XP.

I waited 2 weeks for my Omnia (pretoria area). Got it last weekend only.

Maybe I will start a new thread with my Omnia questions.

Thanks.

Trying to activate my Garmin software, but it keeps failing every time.

Two calls already to Garmin yesterday and their 1 techie still hasn't called me back

What a sucky company !
