The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

SDK and Screenshots

Tks for da feedback :) W.r.t. Opera Mini, if i am not mistaken, the Omnia or i900 does not appear as one of the supported Samsung models on the Opera site.

GUYS, this is a big one. Customisation of the Today screen, etc... What's the asnwer? Do we have to whip out a WinMo SDK and get programming to customise it or what? Sorry that I haven't read the manual yet :p

Get an SDK if you wanna customize that - but do let us know if you found a better way. I read someone used spbmobileshell software, said worked pretty well for him. Btw, did you download a manual? The one in the box is only good for fire fuel - it's not even gloss paper! (Given, I have the vodafone version...sigh)

W.r.t Opera Mini, just go on the site and download the suggested version that comes up, even if the Omnia isnt listed.
Check these screenshots of page that comes up ;)

Hey guys. Got my Omnia on Tuesday. It's brilliant. I'll do the majority of my customisation this weekend when I get a chance, but...

How do I switch off these threaded sms's?

Download PHM Registry Editor from http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/

Be sure to select the Pocket PC 2002,2003 ARM/PXA version to download the .cab file and then run the file on your phone to install.

Find this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM\

Under the key, create a new DWORD value with value name as SMSInboxThreadingDisabled and set it value data to 1.

Should the the trick! (fingers crossed) ;)

Anyone manage to get MXit running on their Omnia?

Use the Internet Explorer browser and try download it. It gives you the smartphone version which works (not very well, but it works).

What phone did you select when you tried to download it, since it doesn't offer i900? (Tried HTC S710 - keeps telling me 'Activation Failed.')

As SPiV said, you must use the IE browser - not Opera, to navigate to the Mxit page and it offers you the Smartphone version. It does have its glitches - for one, turn off the accelorometer as Mxit crashes when the screen orientation changes.

GMail app for the Omnia

Anyone else finding that the GMail app for the Omnia sucks a$$ and doesnt seem to work properly? Logs out u out with some authentication error once u log in and try to read the first email.

I keep getting an error message saying "Activation Failure" - even once I've downloaded using IE

I have the same problem...but you don't have to restart the phone.
you can disconnect the gprs/3g/hsdpa by clicking on the icon on top and clicking disconnect.

I have the feeling it's an MTN issue and not the phone.
Guys, why is this happening to us? It's very irritating! If someone comes up with a solution, please post it!!

I got around this by entering my phone number as +2783... instead of 083...
Give it a shot

I'm on MTN and haven't had this problem at all. It may have something with me switching off HSDPA (Settings --> (tab) Connection --> HSDPA) and 3G because that stuff just drains your battery, and it's easy to just switch on when you need to. Besides, my 3G reception at home is patchy at best... and that's asking for connection/data transmission problems.

Finding where to switch off 3G wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.
Settings --> Phone (under Personal tab) --> (tab) More --> Band Selection --> Get Settings --> GSM 900/1800
(Automatic allows 3G)

To be honest, I find that the EDGE transfer speeds to be more than adequate for on phone browsing. The only annoying thing is remembering to click the little icon near the battery indicator to switch it off when I'm done.

spiv is correct, I just donwloaded smart phone version of mxit via IE and used telephone number in format as suggested +27. Works 100%.

Managed to get it to work this morning at like 04h30 :/ Must be some MXit server error since it seems to be a problem native to MXit. Anywho it's running BEAUTIFULLY! I had a feeling it was going to look like a programme running on a platform that it just wasn't designed for, but it looks fantastic. Don't have any problems in regards to application crashing when I rotate the phone - works the same as everything else.

Anyone know of a way to sync your iTunes library with a WinMo device? (Don't wanna set it up in Windows Media Player 'cause then I can't sync with my iPod :/)

The phone doesnt kill the connection once done, thus the data connection stays active until you disconnect it yourself. Te active connection doesn't cost anything other than battery life assuming you dont have some auto updates etc installed and active.

Has anyone had a problem with the screen not coming on when you press a button?

I have to reset the phone for the screen to come back on.
<snip>
My screen also goes blank for some or other reason, and no amount of button pressing seems to bring it alive and I have to restart it. Not sure what that is all about?
This happened to me for the first time today, after having the phone for 6 days. It's a little worrying. Oddly enough it happened soon after I peeled the plastic off the screen!!! :p

Anyways, i hope it doesnt become a regular occurence for me.
