The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

What battery life are you getting with the Omnia?

Mine lasts nothing more than 24 hours with minimal use. This normal?

No - you should get more than that. My phone was running since yesterday morning (through night) and halfway through day today..and still shows full battery..

Check that you WiFi is not enabled..that eats the battery!

Jeepers, then something must def be eating mine alive. Wi-Fi is off. Task Manager showed a few open apps - nothing major though. I will recharge and make sure all apps close properly after use, and report back.

EDIT: This only applies to the phones with Vodafone Live, from Vodacom.

I posted this in another thread, so I'll post it here too! :)

For those of you who are sick of hitting the live! button on the Today screen, here is how to change it.

Its possible to change the right softkey (I did so myself last night). What you need to do is download a registry editor. I used one from here. When you select download, pick the Pocket Pc 2002,2003 (ARM/PXA) version.

Once you have installed the cab file on the phone (browse to the location you saved it, and click on it) then run it.

Navigate to the key" HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Windows\Today\Keys\113"

You'll see there are two keys, Default and Open. The "Default" key shows the value to be displayed on the right key, and the "Open" key points to the application to be ran when that button is pressed.

I changed my Default to Inbox and my open to "\Windows\tmail.exe" <- The quotes are important here. Although it doesnt ACTUALLY go to the inbox, it does go to the messaging screen.

Hope that helped :)

Before you answer the next question, any of the current Omnia user has previous experience with WM PPC? Brand and model?

How fast is Omnia? Going into directories, dragging and scrolling icons on desktop. Very fluent (compare to your previous WM device)?

Mine was giving the same problem. I just went onto all the settings and disabled as much as I could (where it is not required). I had charged my phone this morning (6am) and I just checked and it is still on 100%. And I made calls, played around a bit, sent a few sms. So somethng must have clicked. Brilliant!

Stupid question..I guess...but what is the "today" screen? And the live button. I have a "Today" on the menu, but when I click on it, nothing happens.

That's good news - I will poke around and see what I can disable.

I also read some other forums saying that the battery only peaks after a good few full charge and discharges. Will see how it goes...

I have used the iMate Pocket PC (WM2003) and HTC Tytn Pro (WM5 & WM6) and the Omnia is very quick compared to the iMate and HTC.

Earphones

Anybody tested out the earphones supplied with the Omnia yet?
Mine is not the best ever...really soft and sounds like the music is a mile away... any1 with same experience, or do I have a dud?
I find that the overall quality of music player lacks depth... but maybe I'm just being fussy...

Tried mine about 2 weeks ago and they work great. First when I plugged them in I got no sound until I realized that there is a volume control switch on the clip where the mic is and where you plug in the headphones.

Will have to test the earphones again - volume control at max on the mic clip, so too on the phone. It does get loud but very unclear.

Then another bugging question - I copied some music onto the storage card, about 300MB worth.
Upon checking free space of the storage card on my phone, it reads its FULL. Plug back into my PC, FULL! 8GB used, although adding up size of all files = only around 300MB.
Any1 else got this problem?

EDIT: Seems to be touch player or Windows Media causing the problem when importing into the playlist...

Hello,
Has anyone tried to sync the Omnia via bluetooth?
I couldn't...
I need a step by step guide to do it...
I have activesync installed already on a win XP notebook.
Thanks!
