The Shopping Centre Armed Robbery Thread....

This Bedford thing was hectic. My daughter was there when it started - getting her hair done.
The shop owner locked the shop, turned off the lights, and all inside hid behind 2 locked doors in the kitchen.

My daughter was giving me running commentary as it unfolded (news internally from centre management). I have never felt so helpless in my life - and worried as ****. Was a horrible hour or so.
At 12H03 the SAPS cornered the remainder of the robbers in Edgars (apparently), then evacuated the centre.

EDIT: The whatsapp that started it all...
"Shots fired at Bedford. 2 bodies on the floor, shots continuing. Locked in the shop."

Not something you want to receive.

Geez. Well done by the owner. Glad all worked out fine.

Well done cops. Pity you did not kill all the criminals.

Good wishes for the innocent victims and hope they recover soon!

What kind of idiot tries to rob a bank nowadays...? even trying to get your own money is a pain in the backside, pull a gun and you're destined to fail

An estimated R4 Million was taken in the Bedford Centre Robbery

What has been called a highly-organised gang has fled the Bedford Centre with estimated R4-million following an armed robbery and shootout at the centre in which four people were wounded.

The tame TIMES arrived on the scene to find everything in disarray, with policemen directing motorists out of a congested parking area.

The centre’s tenants and shoppers was still abuzz with the adrenalin from the event.

Raymond Neuhoff told the TIMES he had heard shots and run for the elevator. “As I neared the top, I heard further shooting,” he said.

Shoppers talked among themselves – many speculating what had happened as centre officials were adamant no one could walk past the demarcated crime scene area.

Police on the scene said around 12 to 16 suspects entered the centre, targeting authorities delivering cash from a cash-in transit van. They said no one had been fatally wounded, but among those shot were two suspects, a security official and a female shopper. They said as the suspects fled the scene, they had let out a shot which had injured the woman.

The men allegedly fled in a white Toyota vehicle taking with them an estimated R4-million and police are investigating.

Gripped with fear, many shoppers chose to avert their shopping to other centres in the area for the morning. Management at Vovo Telo in Village View Centre said the centre’s parking area had been terribly congested and their establishment had been busier than usual over lunchtime with guests bringing them news of the armed robbery.

POLICE COMB CENTRE FOR CLUES

Police have sealed off the crime scene at the Bedford Centre, east of Johannesburg to collect evidence after seven people were shot and injured in the shopping mall on Thursday.

A Sapa reporter at the scene said shoppers emerging from the centre were visibly traumatised after being caught in the cross-fire.

"Among them was a mother and a little girl who were still traumatised by the incident. The girl was crying as her mother carried her out of the centre."

A grey VW Jetta sedan, with blood stains on it, was also sealed off by the police to look for clues.

A firearm was spotted underneath the vehicle and a shoe lay nearby.

Earlier, police said seven people, including two alleged robbers, were injured in the shoot-out between security guards and a group of armed men.

Security guards were collecting cash inside the centre when they were confronted by the group. An undisclosed amount of money was taken, police said.

The SA Police Service twitter account stated that an unlicensed handgun and an AK47 were found on the scene.

A witness inside the centre, Renate Albrecht, told eNCA she had come out of a meeting when she heard "a stampede of people coming".

"We turned around and we heard gunshots. My business partner and I basically ran. The shots were coming from inside the centre and it sounded like it was getting louder like we were being followed," she said.

They ran to her car and hid until they were brave enough to leave.

She said people were running everywhere.

Twitter users posted images of the bloody scenes from inside the centre.

The News24 website posted a video of the blood trail through the centre leading to one of the shooting victims.

A tweet on an account for Bedford Centre said: "Bedford are investigating this horrific incident. We will release a statement as soon as we have more information."

In another tweet it said: "No stores were involved. Shootout between SBV and robbers."

4 million carried through a shopping mall - just waiting to be robbed.

No back entrance to the bank ?
^This.
Has to be an inside job to know how much cash is being transported.
Sick that there was a bloodbath in the centre.
