HAWKS TAKE OVER BEDFORD SHOOTING PROBE

The Hawks have taken over the investigation into the Bedford Centre robbery and shooting, Gauteng police said on Friday.

"The case has been referred to the Hawks," said Lt-Col Katlego Mogale.

She dismissed a Beeld report that the mastermind of the shootout was arrested.

"Maybe they [the Beeld] should shed light on this case to investigators. I don't know about that."

She said no other arrests had been made.

"Only two suspects are under police guard at hospital, and that is tantamount to being arrested."

Hawks spokesman Hangwani Mulaudzi could not immediately be reached.

Seven people were injured in a shoot-out at the Bedford shopping centre in Bedfordview, east of Johannesburg, on Thursday.

Three customers, two security guards and two robbers were injured and taken to hospital.

Mogale could not provide an update on their conditions on Friday.

On Thursday, police said the security guards were collecting cash inside the centre when they were confronted by a group of armed men.

"A shooting ensued between them, with some customers caught in the crossfire. An undisclosed mount of money was taken by some of the suspects," Mogale said at the time.

really irritating how news agencies release 5 articles for the same story with little differences

REWARD AFTER BEDFORD CENTRE ROBBERY

A R500,000 reward has been offered by the cash-in-transit company whose employees were robbed at the Bedford Centre mall in Johannesburg, the company said on Friday.

"SBV Services is offering a R500,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and successful prosecution of the suspects," the company said in a statement.

Two of five of its security guards were wounded when armed men shot at them while they were collecting cash in the mall on Thursday morning.

The two were in a stable condition in hospital. Two of the robbers were shot and wounded, along with three customers caught in the crossfire.

Acting Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said on Friday that all seven were still alive.

SBV said its employees "bravely defended" the attack.

"SBV's risk and governance team is working in collaboration with the SAPS to apprehend suspects as soon as possible. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken during this attack," the company said.

The Hawks had taken over the investigation into the robbery and shooting.

The should mention how much money was stolen - so the criminals will either be ratted out through the bounty, or taken out by their peers. This robbery seems to have been well organised (inside job?), considering that there is mention of several million rands of cash. I am surprised that it took so long to actually release information that SBV was targeted and police does not seem to release information which eye-witnesses seem to openly discuss on radio/social media.

^This.
Has to be an inside job to know how much cash is being transported.
Sick that there was a bloodbath in the centre.

I live less than 5 min walk from there, this has happened a few times before;

these are not your run of the mill tsotsis, these are professional ex soldiers/security guys;
they were tipped off and were lying in ambush, last time it was an assassination attempt when one of their friends, turned state witness.

mostly thats what its like living in the wild west of JHB, these guys kill their own guys ; if your unlucky enough to be in the way,
that's tickets for you;

simply dont know the full story, and this has happened before, and will happen again, last time was the post office and I hid inside Edgars when the shooting started;

the bank was enlarged at least 50% from what it originally was; initially the standard bank was very small before the renovation;
I remember how much floor space they added, and its shared with FNB/ABSA and bank of athens

so there must be a heavy duty safe back there for 4 million; or it was a big order that recently came in;

Double security gate entrance from the back - this should be compulsory for all bank deliveries.

they do got that; but as I mentioned before, the centre grew exponentially and it wasnt set up correctly to have a back entrance;

they sort of "tacked on" a section at the end of the existing centre,

and they thought they could manage with a standard front opening;

also I should mention that bedford centre offices host the HQ of standard bank for jozi province;

they knew well in advance whats delivery going to come; and prepared an ambush;

also I should mention that bedford centre offices host the HQ of standard bank for jozi province

I thought it was them three big ass buildings they own in jhb, the one with its own shopping mall for their staff etc?

One in sandton(that's the one with its own mall), one near commissioner street, and one in Bedford centre,

I belive this is the ATM division, as you sometimes see the ATM built into a sprinter van parked outside,

so Panarottis, was closed wonder who's idea it was to go to spur, Ouens wat nou eish!, Ok, plan B Spur...hehehehehe
