The Shopping Centre Armed Robbery Thread....

I don't think that blacklisting system even works, as I have blacklisted phones, which were later recovered - and they all worked just fine without unblocking them.

If the phone works after a blacklist then it was greylisted, meaning they are supposed to trace it and see what MSISDN / IMSI is used in it and who is RICA'd for that, arrest to follow.

What this all points to is not a flaw in blacklisting, but in policing and border control.

They are only blacklisted in SA. These phones are then exported to other African countries.
Apparently China is a big market for stolen iPhones, any high end phone will be in demand and open to any network outside of Sa borders.

That being said aren't most current and previous gen high end android and iPhones essentially bricked if the owner had fingerprint security enabled with encryption or something similar?

Yup, a friend's blackberry got stolen 6 years ago and when i messaged him on BBM (not knowing about the theft) then this other dude replies and pretends to be friends of my friend. Eventually he comes clean and says he bought the phone from a dealer and he is in Nigeria...

Staff receiving counselling after Ballito furniture store robbery[/B

The store’s David Pearce says a counsellor was brought in immediately after the incident on Saturday.

“In terms of their response and services after the incident, they have been very helpful,” said Pearce.

Two employees were held up by a man who stole jewellery, cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Pearce says one of the women was able to trigger a panic button, alerting security.

“He stood at the door and told security that there was nothing wrong at the store. Staff behind him were able to indicate to security that he was armed. He must have panicked and ran from the store,” said Pearce.
