The Shroom Thread

Thanks The Two. How are you treating your depression? I have heard that CBD oils is also good but havnt tried it
Tramadol helped but you can't take it daily. I used to take it twice a week for a boost. Nothing had helped really. I exercise have been many differnt ssris as well

That's definitely enough for me to start feeling effects with envies or teachers
ill try it now that I am on holiday.
The only time something 'happened' was the first time I tried 0.3g. I found music more enjoyable and the colour red from an electronic source was very bright but that was briefly and only that once.

I took 0.2g this morning and I feel like I have been spaced the whole day. Can’t bring myself to do anything. I don’t know if mushrooms are right for me. Does anybody know of anything else to treat anxiety?

If you are on leave and are up for it wait for 2 days and take 0.2g again and see what happens.

Open up the capsule and try smaller doses... I think with time you'll build up a tolerance to the spacey effects.

You might not be used to it, if you notice it that much. I notice it, but it doesn't bother me.

So, a few things about mushrooms with regards to things like anxiety.

With microdosing like you are doing now, it will take longer to see any effects, but when you do, they are permanent.

I don't know how you acquired your anxiety, but I recommend reading a book called Childhood Disrupted. A lot of the content there is also applicable to post traumatic stress disorder, if that is what you have. Childhood Disrupted focuses on what happens to our brains when we go through childhood trauma.

Now, I'm going to be careful with the language that I use here because I don't want to something like "you are like so" and then you might think it is 100% true. It might not. So I will talk about myself.

When I went through childhood trauma, it affected the normal development of my brain, resulting in my stress response being overactive. When something stressful happens to someone, the stress response activates to help you deal with it, and then the stress response goes away. Because of what I went through, this wasn't always the case. I tended to be in fight or flight mode most of the time - its like my stress levels were permanently turned up. This is a very summarised version by the way.

So you have a case where childhood trauma affects the developing child's brain, and as an adult, you have a hard time coping and you don't understand why. You get stressed out all the time, and there is the familiar interplay between stress, anxiety and depression. I'm sure you are familiar with that.

What you need then is some way to regrow the brain, to regrow those neurons, to change the connections in the brain.

Now this is possible, as an adult, despite what some people believe. Scientific studies have confirmed it in humans - brain growth slows down as an adult but doesn't stop. Certain things have been known to promote more brain growth (neurogenesis) than others.

Meditation causes neurogenesis, and this is why long term meditators tend to have lower stress levels than non-meditators. Exercise also causes neurogenesis by the way, and sleep is critical for it.

But so do mushrooms. Any dose of mushrooms at all will cause neurogenesis, although this doesn't mean that one 100g dose will magically fix you. It does mean that microdosing, over time, has the POTENTIAL to cause neurogenesis, and thus increase feelings of well being and reduce stress.

I want to stress the word potential - I don't want to promise you the world.

But the important thing, in terms of anxiety reduction, is that first you need to grow the new neurons. This takes time. Unfortunately with microdosing, you will probably have to microdose for at least a month before you should expect to see any results. Combining microdosing with meditation would be beneficial but I don't think it would mean you would see results quicker. Maybe better results but not faster.

Thanks very much for your input Ancalagon.
I have been microdosing for over a month on a 0.1g every 3 days. It feels like my anxiety is worse on the dosing days, which I would think should be the opposite. I also practice meditation, which helps but is pretty hard to do at work when the anxiety happens.

I don't know then. It could be that you are feeling anxious due to how the mushrooms make you feel, ie whether you can still do your job, will anybody notice etc etc.

I'd maybe say start microdosing in the evenings rather. If you take mushrooms a few hours before bed, they shouldn't affect your sleep - you may even sleep better. That way, mushrooms are not getting in the way of work or anything. Take them at 8PM and you should sleep without any problems, although maybe you will have more colourful dreams.

I would think it would be difficult to meditate at work, due to all the distraction. However, they say it is the practice itself that is important - trying to train the mind. Perhaps you just need to give it time, or meditate at a time and space when you are already less stressed.

A therapist may help you work through these things. As I've said before, mushrooms aren't a magic bullet.

Good advice. Dose at night

I remember my first shroom trip very vividly, it was mostly awesome. I even drove, not sure how or why. With 3 other people in the car. It was mad :)

I still struggle to see how people LIKE doing shrooms.
Don't people who take em recreationally struggle with any of the emotional things they bring up?

Back then it was new and a lot of fun. I think some people take shrooms to deal with the emotional things they bring up.

A 2g dose can be quite fun without being too intense.

I guess it also depends on how and where you do it. 2g in a beautiful setting in nature is quite nice.

Used to trip at my friend's house - he had a beautiful back garden. Now I don't live in South Africa anymore and my back garden is tiny! And its winter here. Sad.

Night dosing is another good idea... A low dose seems to increase my deep sleep according to my Oura ring.

Also: are you sure what you are feeling from the shrooms is actually anxiety? They give me a 'funny' feeling in my stomach that feels like anxiety but it's not. It's very mild when I microdose and terrible on a trip dose. I hate the feeling but try and relax through it knowing it's worth it in the end.

I don't find shrooms 'fun' at all, and I hate the 'come up', although I'm okay after I've peaked. Nothing in the experience is recreational for me, but I like the personal growth aspects. So yeah... I don't understand recreational use either haha, but each to their own.

The come up? Is that the part where you feel like you getting fookin drunk?
