The Shroom Thread

Just to clarify what krieg said...

The most common species of magic mushroom grown and eaten is Psilocybe Cubensis, commonly known as cubes. Cubensis has many cultivars with varying names, such as Golden Teacher, B+, A+, Penis Envy, Mazatapec and Texans to name a few.

Rumour has it that Penis Envy is stronger than most, but generally people agree that cubes are all pretty much equal in strength.

In other words, what you ate were cubensis of some kind, which are the most commonly grown and eaten shrooms. It is impossible to tell what cultivar it was, but yeah it looks like B+ or golden teacher.

Yes, it's very important to know what you are taking, also impossible to identify from a photo only from a spore print, they almost look like Golden Teachers but as they say a cube is a cube is a cube. With other strains taking a small amount is way more intense than cubensis varieties in my opinion hence I think you took some cubes. Looks like you have maybe a gram plus there, I would take that in a week's time sober and enjoy the day.
This week will have some nice weather...

@krieg will take your advice and wait till the weekend, it seems like a lot outside the party vibe but I'm happy to give it a go. This time on my own, without alcohol, in a quiet space.

@Ancalagon thanks for the info, i was a bit confused not knowing what cubes are - OK, those are the different strains I was thinking of.

There's a lot to learn, looking forward to lessons :D

Make sure to weigh the dose, it's important to know how much you're taking and at what dosage you need to reach your desired level. YMMV but for me I react the following with cubes:

1g euphoria, no visuals
2g this is the highest dose I will take with other people present, still in control, sometimes mild visuals, laughing a lot
3g still in control, go through about three to four 20 - 30 minute trips at a time
4g this is my sweet-spot, love it
5g I get to a stage where you just have to surrender to the mushroom and enjoy the ride

Most important advice is to prepare your setting and environment beforehand, absolutely everything from music, food, cellphone, any distractions. Once you consume you don't want to do anything but wait for onset.

Spotify by any chance? If so, care to share?

Not quite willing to share my own playlist, because from it, you can work out quite a lot of details about me! Sorry, I'm a little paranoid about my identity.

But here is a playlist created by Spotify themselves, which is similar, and pretty good:

No worries, lots of whackjobs on MyBB.

Thanks for the list :) I haven't gotten hold of any shrooms yet, but I have some weed cookies which put me in a good place to zone out and listen to some music.

Retrowave in general is good music for it!

Have bookmarked this.

As the saying goes "when the student is ready the teacher will appear".

I always had you down as very conservative and didn't imagine you'd consider using psilocybin.

Nah, I'm pretty liberal about these things but never been into anything too much.

Smoking weed just makes me sleep, eating it seems like a nice buzz. I drink occasionally, but go weeks without a drink sometimes. I had a large whiskey last night, was my first drink in 3 weeks I think.

I've done mushrooms once, around 4 years ago at a camp in the Berg. I really enjoyed it but I always thought I'd keep it as more of nature type of vibe. The guys I did it with do it more often, but I never thought I'd enjoy it in more of a closed, isolated setting.

Those are the only three I've tried in terms of 'drugs' I guess. Never done coke or acid or anything else.

I'm pretty chilled :)

Nice :)

It is amazing what a difference the right growing environment makes to shrooms. After I decanted them from their containers into monotubs with coir for bulk, they are taking off! I'm hopeful that I'll have full colonisation by the weekend. After that, fruiting begins.

Do you use a pressure cooker to pasteurize your substrate?

I don't bother, no.

For bulk substrates like coco coir, I just add boiling water. But the truth is, I'm not sure that is even necessary for coir. I mean, I have coir that has been sitting in a bucket for months now, and it hasn't grown any contamination.

For substrates like brown rice or rye grain, I soak it for 8 hours, and then boil it for 10 minutes. After that, I used to put it into glass jars, and I would pressure cook it. But its a pain in the ass. So sometimes I'd just put the jars into a regular pot, and cook them in longer. To do that, you add a dish cloth to the bottom of the pot (no contact between jars and pot!), add water until about half way up the jars, put the lid on, and boil for about an hour and a half.

Lately, I use the microwave method. I bought premade containers, that are round, hold 0.5l, made of plastic, and have injection ports and filter strips at the top. The filter strips allow for slow gaseous exchange, although VERY slow. Anyway, with those, I fill them with cooked grain, then microwave them for 1 minute to 1.5 minutes. Too long and the top pops.

With that method, I had 0 contamination rate out of 10.

I don't tend to have many contamination problems. I think the risk of contamination is a little overblown actually. What I struggle with is getting decent germination rates, and I'm not sure why. But I think it is down to moisture balance.

You are lucky on the lack on contamination I'm getting a lot even with pressure cooking for two hours. You should check up on endospores in grain, they recommend a 24 hour soak to be safe. I still need a still air box in the future. For the bulk substrate I also just use boiling water in a bucket but I use a coir/vermiculite mixture.
