The Silver Surfer Thread (iBurst 2Mbps Modem)

I was expecting iBurst to use the new modem to convince everyone to sign up for another 2 year contract to 'cement' income for all the expiring contracts, this is risky business if tomorrow CellC, MTN, Voda.... releases a competitive wireless alternate, next month we all LTE/WIMAX/4G users...

All very well to have 2mbps but how does this affect midnight to 8 uncapped downloads???

I get close to 3.5 gigs a night if i'm lucky.

Does the 2mbps mean that during those hours {VAS} it will be doubled speed also?

Otherwise I'd go straight to Mweb, but no ADSL supported in my area :(

Everything stays the same, VAS128 goes at 128, uncapped goes at uncapped... only difference is that the upper speed is now 2Mbps and not 1Mbps.

But really, R3500 is just far too expensive. To put that into perspective - you can grey import an iPad2 for that amount of money.

Feedback please on first experiences with 2MB modems

Hi,

anyone got any experiences with new modem? Area Package etc would be interesting, including downlink, uplink speeds, time of day etc.

Thanks in advance

agree, the price is not justified. however am in a very lightening prone area and dsl, pabx, cordless phones are much like shooting stars. pretty, bright but very short lived.

my worry is that at times i get much better speeds and performance on my system, i.e. xmas holidays. I have the feeling that iburst is either overloaded or throttling the bandwidth on the modems we have.

What is the official rating on the 1st gen modems?

Thanks

The rating is the same (you referring to the white one?)

Please post your location or update your profile so that I can gain a better understanding of the problem.

Currently have two 1Mbps (Dark Knight) modems, will I be able to add the 2Mbps (silver surfer) modem to my account?

Eltherza & RVQ .

The 1mbit modem counts as 1 modem, the 2mbit modem counts as 2 Modems (It's technically 2x 1mbit modems linked)

You can have a maximum of 2 modems linked to one account. (Hence one 2mbit Modem is 2 Modems) Can't linkup a 3rd.

Hope this Helps :)

Don't know how you arrived at the 2Mbps counting as two modems, r00i wrote that one of the 1Mbps modems would need to be moved to another account; implying the original account would have one 1Mbps and one 2Mbps modems linked.
