The Silver Surfer Thread (iBurst 2Mbps Modem)

Rooi, correct me if i'm wrong. The reason why he must move the one modem to a different account is because. The maximum is 2 modems for the Iburst Internet service. and if you link the 2mbit to the account (you cannot connect a 3rd modem to that account)

I might be wrong.. but sofar as i know, the 2mbit modem does count as 2 modems.

Don't know how you arrived at the 2Mbps counting as two modems, r00i wrote that one of the 1Mbps modems would need to be moved to another account; implying the original account would have one 1Mbps and one 2Mbps modems linked.

That's what I got from r00i's response as well...

How much bandwidth is required for a decent VOIP call? Thinking of getting 1GIG with VAS for 3rd modem...

So 2Mb modem counts as 2 modems on 1 account? Thats just silly.

iBurst needs to reprogram their systems for more modems.... Oh wait! Don't touch anything, or else everything will topple over!!!

Eltherza & RVQ .

The 1mbit modem counts as 1 modem, the 2mbit modem counts as 2 Modems (It's technically 2x 1mbit modems linked)

You can have a maximum of 2 modems linked to one account. (Hence one 2mbit Modem is 2 Modems) Can't linkup a 3rd.

Hope this Helps :)

False, you can have 2 x 2 Mb/s modems on one account.

Hi all, new guy here.
I am waiting for delivery of my new iBurst 2mb/s modem (hopefully today).

Welcome, Did you pay by credit card? And they delivering it free of charge?

You'll probably get +-1600 kbps downloads.

Phoned iBurst, sorted out a contract renewal. We were eligible to renew the contract anyways.
Paying an extra R179 per month on top of the normal subscription for the 15Gb package and getting the modem couriered to my house for no extra charge.

All done within 5 minutes on the phone. Service was great!

What made you go the contract route considering it's ALOT cheaper to buy the device cash and use month-2-month, also taking into account the advantages of not being tied down for the next two years?

Are you using an external antenna?

RVQ, I am not phased by being "tied down" for the next two years. Been a happy iBurst subscriber for more than 6 years already and will continue to support them.
Yes, it would have been cheaper to buy the modem outright, but we made our decision and it is done.

No external antenna. Modem sits on top of my PC case which 3 metres from a window and signal sits at 90-95% almost all the time (rainy weather and it goes to 80 odd%).
I have moved the modem to the windowsill and to the curtain rail, but signal actually dropped to less than 80%, then tried a friend's Poynting external and made no difference.
I am happy with it as it is.

Need to pop the new baby nearer to a window, seems it is sensitive to placement, but here is a quick test from a few minutes ago:

Not bad during day time... should improve more in the evening.
