The Silver Surfer Thread (iBurst 2Mbps Modem)

The Silver Surfer connects to the Ethernet port of the PC (no USB connection), so the Dashboard and Terminal software does not pick it up.

Tried "eyeburst" but no luck. Will find a solution somewhere to monitor signal strenth.

:D
Nope. Just moved the modem around as far as the current cable could reach, and it is actually standing on a knee high cabinet about 2 metres from the window. Modem is facing the window directly as well, got the best Speedtest result that way.

Monitoring using the silver surfer

Ok, all the usual disclaimers apply! (and for some reason McAfee doesn't like the stuff below) (Hell hath a special place for them - but I digress)

Apologies in advance for the long post.

OK, I was bored and sitting with a hangover, so I did some Speedtest's using a variety of servers from around the world. Interesting results, although iBurst's ping still sucks badly. I don't play online games though, so not phased about that.

Did 5 consecutive tests on each server and chose the best one from each test.

Would be interesting to see what those same tests look like after hours, hopefully you get your full 2Mbps worth...

Thank you! Did the steps and signal is showing 100% now, where it was 78%.
I got a longer cable from a friend earlier and popped the modem on the windowsill about 20 minutes ago.

Even with the storm here in Pta at the moment, these are the results:

It is official, the Silver Surfer ROCKS!

The higher the speed the longer speedtest needs to run to be accurate...

However, it does not do this, it runs the same time for any speed!

Disagree.
On iBurst, it downloaded about 1MB (default) for sub-32kbps.
On Cell C, for 7Mbps, it downloaded about 7MB.
So on 2Mbps must download a bit more than for 32kbps.
