The Silver Surfer Thread (iBurst 2Mbps Modem)

I got this the beginning on the month

That's since turning the modems aerial perpendicular - Thanks Rooi.
Since then it also hasn't disconnected again at night

Regarding slow internet and websites not loading recently - I found a critical windows update with seems to be screwing with me.
Guys - try doing a system restore to about the 2nd of Nov.
I'm also trying to find a way for it to stop installing itself - even though automatic updates are now turned off - it still seems to creep in as it's a critical update.

Thing is I have 5pc's incl laptops from XP to WIN7. All SLOW. It just irritates me that iburst don't even want to put me back on my 1meg untill this gets sorted. Maybe if my 1meg works again it will prove that the problem is on their side.

I GOT SORTED!!!!!! Well sort of. At least I have decent internet again 0.7 for a 1meg. I got iburst to put my 1meg back and it's working. It only took 11 days. There must be something wrong with the setup/format of the 2meg modems and their connection to iburst, ecspecially if you logged on to uncapped with a 1meg modem first. I am just happy that at least we got somewhere. Will now wait and see what the verdict is on the 2meg modem. 'return it or firmware'

I doubt it has anything to do with the 2Mb modem firmware (there is no upgraded firmware to download from anywhere in any case, i have searched).
I got mine a long time ago and would regularly see over 2Mbps during the day.
It is only recently (2 weeks +-) that speeds have dropped to less than 1Mbps, even at night.

Our old 1Mbps modem is on another PC and also gets way below average speeds.

I also have my 2 meg modem on 1 pc and my old 1 meg modem on my wife's pc. Both are seriously slow. The problem started about a week ago for me.

I tried everything I know to try fix on my side, so problem can only be on the iBurst side.

When are they going to fix this F%$k up? I'm paying good money for a crap service and I'm getting tired of no news. Not even a "we are aware of the problem, and are working on a resolution"!!!

The 2 Mb/s is a senstive creature as it has two radios. It is important to experirment with orientation of the modem and antennaes until you hit a sweet spot. A few metres makes a difference and walls and foliage should be avoided to improve the signal.

Drop in IBurst Connection

So i have IBurst for the last 4 years.Initially had a 1mb modem and recently upgraded contract to 2mb.I also have a 3m pole with my Omni antenna installed on my roof.I play constantly on XBOX LIVE and notice that after a game or 2 i get disconnected .After installing the 2mb modem i still get disconnected.
I have a UTD modem with the splitter pigtail that connects to my Omni.It connects to a TP link WAN router that broadcasts to my notebook and connects wired to my XBOX.

When i was on the 1MB modem with Omni i used to get ...
Ping 160
Download 0.300mb
Upload.230mb

After i upgrade to 2mb
Ping 105
Download .800
Upload .400

I have opened NAT'n on my XBOX.Created UDP port on router and disabled firewall.

Really frustrating especially when in the middle of a game !

Any ideas

Sigh. I do wonder why i bought a 2Mbps UTD:

Test Date: Dec 9, 2011 6:59 AM
Connection Type: Wifi
Server: Rosebank
Download: 0.46 Mbps
Upload: 0.52 Mbps
Ping: 81 ms

Uplink faster than down...

With the 2 Mb/s it is important to have the right version 1.03/4 and not 1.01 (additionally you need to experiment with modem location and orientation - use the web service to check).

Hardware version or software version of the modem and how do you know? It does not mention on the sticker on the back of the modem what version anything is.

According to the web service info - Our modem:
Software Version C101C0C9
Software Build Date 2008.02.14
Hardware Build Date 2001.03.15

And if it is a 1.01 version, what then? Buy a new modem or will iBurst swop it out? Software upgrade? Firmware upgrade?

Again... How do you check the version, and what web service?

Why is this info not in the iBurst website. I am also getting very pissed off with my 2 meg modem running slower than my old 1 meg modem!!!

This is v1.01 (you can bring the modem to the shop on William Nicol and support will upgrade it for you)

And cost wise? If it is free, I will do it. If there are costs involved then no thanks.
Can't the iBurst shop in Menlyn do the upgrade? It is less than 3km from my place compared to going all the way to Jhb.
