Hi all

New to the world of double edge razors. Where can I buy double edge razor blades for The Bluebeards Revenge Scimitar? Do I have a choice in brands and types?

Your advice please.

I know Clicks sell Super Max blades. Bought Bic blades at Dischem. I don't know if you have a Metro but they also have Super Max blades Stainless and Platinum. Super Max Stainless really gives smooth close shaves I love it.

No luck at my local large pharmacy. Will try Dischem and Clicks tomorrow. Failing which I'll get online.

Not sure what to look out for. You guys reckon Super Max are the ones to get? Obviously sharpness/longevity are desirable... :p Stainless vs platinum differences?

I don't have a course manly beard, but there are just so many benefits to not using multi blade razors.
 
Come to think of it, it might be best starting with something more forgiving/less sharp as I'm a beginner here.
 
They are so cheap compared to the new ones I dont think it really matters if they go dull quicker.

You used to get sharpeners for the blades as well, you probably still do.
 
Used double edge for about a year or two, but have gone back to (cheap) classic throw aways heads on safety razors. No matter how careful I am I find that I still cut myself more with the doubles. For body hair the doubles def win though.

I like the BICs as a brand because the prices fluctuate a lot. So if you keep an eye on it you can score some decent deals. Watch esp when they introduce a new product. New BIC stuff is +- a give away (when they started shaving foam I picked up cans for 12 bucks...gilette was triple+).

I'd also suggest setting up a concious timetable to dump the blades. These are pretty cheap brands so you can cycle through them pretty fast without risking pushing them to the limit.

Interesting on this front is looking at high res scans of medical needles after X uses. Its pretty wild how fast they go blunt (essentially one shot)...thats medical grade steel...so that convinced me that cycling through blades fast is the answer, not buying fancy "titanium" stuff. If the medical stuff doesn't hold then I have not confidence in marketing heavy "titanium" either.

You're probably right, just going by what I saw on Makro's site. Not sure where else to look?

Makro's SuperMax in the yellow packaging seem well liked, will probably just get those.

If anyone knows where I can get BICs in Cape Town Southern Suburbs, holler!
 
Pick n Pay. R14 for the SuperMax and R10 for the Lion
May as well try the Lion. Anyone user them?
