The Single Blade Razor Thread (Double Edge / Cut-Throat)

Loving it. I'm down to no more nicks, and close after two passes.

Moved from the Super-Max Stainless and tested a Bolzano Superinox blade. Second shave with it now and it's noticeably better than the Super-Max.

I've been using the Proraso Sensitive pre shave cream for post shave too. Wonderful cool and tingly feeling.
 
Try the Treet and 3 different Gillette blades next...
 
I've been doing the dual-edge thing for quite some time now.

Doing it pretty basic - cheap old tub of balm/cream, whip up a bit of lather and apply.
2 or 3 passes and I'm done.

The blade itself doesn't seem to have as much effect as the handle it's mounted to. I had a cheap lion at first and got a more sturdy metal one my dad had later. Different angle and shorter exposed edge, but seems to work better.

If your face is nice and warm it works a bit better.

Way less rash than with two or three blade shaves, although I still sometimes use those when in a hurry or for little touch-ups.

You can use normal shaving cream if you really want.
 
Try Sorbet Man. If I recall correctly, they stock Bluebeard products but not too sure about the blades.
 
Last year I got them from TakeALot, but they don't stock them anymore.

In the end I went with Sharpedge.co.za and got Merkur ones.

I'll try them and report back, but the Bluebeard's Revenge will be a hard act to follow
 
Im still waiting for summer to get going again. Too damn weak to shave properly during winter :whistle:

If you want I can send you some sample blades from across the world, really really good blades. I have settled, for now, on the Gillette Minora blades. Smooth but sharp blade for a excellent shave!

No **** Lion is really bad! But the Minora is not local, its made in St Petersburg. Try and find a tuck at Spar or Pick & Pay, you will not regret it.

I'm looking to buy a sample pack from that online store I posted but keep putting off, probably grab in a month or so. Looked at those blue beards but that is just way too expensive for blades.

I buy all my shaving things from RiverValleyTrading. Mohammed is a awesome guy that will help you with anything, any time of the day. I can send you a couple of samples from each tuck if you want, let me know.

Nah, I'm good for now. I only go through a single blade a month so it lasts me a looooooong time. I'm looking to grab the sample pack, maybe a soap or two, alum stone and a better razor. Just the razors are confusing as there are so many: Parker , Mecur etc and different types. Thing is I want a nice heavy one, not concerned about much else.

Send Mohammed a mail, he will most certainly sort you out. He just delivered a Fatip Grande to me this morning, hopefully I will still have a face tomorrow morning.

I swear I used to nick myself more with old disposables or gillete mach 5's. Haven't had a bad nick since I started and that's using cheap blades and a razor. Enjoy the once a week ritual of a good clean shave: lather with a brush, swob on and soak, shave off and some nice balm to keep the face moist and happy afterwards. Even shave burn is significantly less using safety razors. Not to mention the pain of trying to clean the other shavers, DE are nice and easy to clean, swipe for swipe.

Yes it is a very enjoyable experience which also calms me after a rough day. I have had one bad nick but that was my own stupidity for being in a rush. Once you get a decent razor with good blades it will make the world of a difference
