The Single Blade Razor Thread (Double Edge / Cut-Throat)

Do yourself and your face a huge favour and go onto BOB and search for river valley trading. They sell a bag with 10 packs of different blades, buy a pack. The lion blades raped my face badly.

yea - what he said, there's so much better out there than supermarket blades (and cheaper too) wet shaving is great and once paired with a good soap/blade/razor and technique you'll never go back to shaving like the peasants :) and getting reamed by cartridge razor purchases, women tend to throw themselves at you and the ingrown hair men (mach3 club) will envy your manliness.

Alum blocks. You leave it in luke warm water for a bit after shaving thencrub it all over your face and neck where you just shaved. This will close any small nicks that might have occurred and its also a anti septic and help tremendously with ingrown hairs.

Yes you do. Its called an electric shaver.
 
I also used the Lion blades about ten years ago, was good. Used an old safety blade of my father's. Then I switched, for some reason. Must go look for the safety blade again.

I have one ...buddy got them for cheap

but doesnt give the proper soothing feeling as i would like it to

Don't be fooled, all safety razor blades are sharp and stays sharp after use (as in slice skin). Ideally you'd want the blades as smooth/sharp as possible whilst using them - some people use these blades up to 7 days without changing - depends on your beard type/volume. I personally use the platinum blades for 4 shaves absolute maximum - depends on the skin feel/performance (I always dump a blade if I get a nick from an against the grain pass.

My process is:
Shower
Wash face with soap
Rinse
Apply pre shave oil (optional step)
Wash hands
Wet brush and load soap onto it
Face lather (I get enough lather on my brush for a three pass shave)
First pass, with the grain (WTG) (damn good idea to "map your face" to check in which direction your hair is growing)
Rinse face & lather up
Second pass, across the grain (XTG)
Rinse face & lather up
Third pass, against the grain (ATG)
Touch-ups if needed
Rinse face, apply allum
Rinse with cold water
Apply balm, aftershave
Admire shave as smooth as the four cheeks of a baby.
Get all the ladies
Profit

It sounds like a lot to do, but it's the highlight of my morning routine

Great method and info. It's a bit of extra time but it's so zen.

Try Osma Allum / Allum di Rocca / Muhle Allum - it's pretty cheap, as one would last around 2 years

Third shave now, still using the Super-Max blades I bought initially at Pick n Pay. When that's up I'll move onto the new ones.

Just loving it, the smoothness/closeness one can achieve is unreal. I'm pulling skin wherever I can. :D

Takes time, but it's worth it. Down to only one or two of the tiniest nicks now.

I've ordered a Muhle shaving bowl, and Proraso shaving cream and pre shave, which should arrive Monday. Going to start using my super badger brush.

Although it takes longer its soothing and calming, no more ingrown hairs, no more rash and a healthier skin.
