Email SMTP Issues

Hi there

I cant send email from my X1. I can receive no problem. I have installed the official WM 6.1 cab, no improvement. I have tried this one also no luck. I am on the MTN network. On the outgoing settings I have my normal smtp server setting that I use in Outlook on my PC. Is there anything that I should use instead, anyone else had this issue? And no, I dont want to use gmail instead:)

Does anyone know someone at Vodacom? Also when you received your phone was it sealed in plastic? Mine wasn't.. Also the phone was the wrong way around... Then the box was opened I could read XPERIA but when I opened the flaps the phone was upside down. It this how it should have been? The phone is dead and it doesn't even charge anymore...

Vodashop D0o$ said they have to send it away.... I said they can forget about me waiting... So he said fine, I can come in and they will cancel the upgrade (but he didn't mention that I'll have to sing a form so that Sony first has to confirm the phone was faulty) and then do another upgrade (SO it's also waiting...)

I'm trying to speak to the owner now and see what he said. Can I do anything because the phone was actually opened (I think) before I got it?

Solved the problem for now and hopefully for a while. Delete old account and create new one.

Can someone maybe please tell me, does your phone charge thru USB when you connect it to your PC? If so is it slower then the normal power unit? Coz the entire day I tried charging my phone thru usb from the PC and the power didn't move. Now it's on charge for about an hour and it's more then half way?

I wanted to take it back today but my car had a flat tire when I stopped at home so I couldn't make it. So I'm just trying to see if it's my battery of my own stupidity, lol...

I'm going to charge it full. Then I'm doing a hard reset and then I'll disable the WiFi, HSDPA (will I still go onto the net with 3G or GPRS?? or do I have to enable it everythime before going onto the internet?) and I'll set the brightness and also the 10sec time that the backround dims and 1 min to standby.

With these settings (is there anything else) to save the battery life, how long should the phone work? About 24 hours? 36 or 48? or More??

I'll remove it from charge and I will not play with it. I have a meeting tomorrow from 9 - around 12. If it's still ok then I might hang on to it till friday to test. If it doesn't improve I'll take it back.

But any feedback would be nice from someone who is also using the X1.

Thanks guys I really owe you.

renvilo - the voltage of both the USB data cable & the charger is 5V, but the wall charger's amperage is much higher. Thus, it stands to reason that the phone will charge much faster on mains power than on the USB cable. Having the phone set to charge on the data connection seems to be more to keep the battery from running down than to effectively charge the thing.

I came across this (rather obvious) bit of info while trawling either xperiax1.net or xda-developers.com trying to figure out why my Xperia's reception sucked. Hope it helps - I've returned my Xperia & canceled my upgrade. I'll stick to my ol'-faithful N95 for the next couple of months.

I had to choose between the HTC Touch Pro and the Sony X1... I can't help feeling that I made the wrong choice??

Ok the phone is fully charged now. It's 8PM and I did set the settings like I said. I'll leave it for most of the night maybe just send an sms let's say every 1 our. So let's say that's only 4 for tonight...

If the battery is dead by tomorrow around 12 (or even let's say halfway dead i'll be taking it back tomorrow... Then I'll think it over to cancel the upgrade and either get the HTC Touch pro or a Nokia again... That's why I don't like changing from Nokia. There stuff ALWAYS works just fine... I had several nokia's, 1 samsung and a few other old stuff, lol... And now I got a Sony Ericsson... Maybe a mistake??

But I'll keep you up to date and let you know if Sony sucks or not...

Thanks for the charging info...

Keep in mind that the Touch Pro is likely to share the X1's 'issues'. Both are WinMo devices & both are manufactured by HTC - the spec sheets are actually VERY similar.

I share your sentiments, though... and I think in 2 months' time or so I'll try to loan a Touch Pro from Leaf SA to test the signal strength at home as I can't help wondering if that wouldn't have been the better choice... This whole X1 Xperiance (sic) has left me quite disillusioned by the new generation of mobile devices, though. Having spent HOURS on GSMArena.com reading reviews on all the other devices I could replace my N95 with, each & every single one had one or more deal-breaking issues...

charge it on the wall, not the silly usb trickle

I have to agree with you Enigma. The new GEN phones have to many features and they all lack most of the common values like the primary use... Signal, lifetime, battery time, strength...

They concentrate more on all the cool gadgets (That I really like) but they have to remember it's still just a phone... If you need a Cam, buy a Cam, GPS? Get a real GPS... There's a reason why they sell it separate... It's better to have a dedicated device and it will always be better...

I'm sending some text messages, send a mms and will make a phone call for lets say 5 min to test... I am not going to stress the phone but rather just see what will happen if I use it like I used my N81..

Gonna have to disagree with you... i have found my phone gps handy soooooo many times... besides the fact that my car (with the dedicated gps device in it), was stolen, when i am with a friend, and he doesnt have a gps, i use the phone... also, with the camera... im not lugging my video camera/still camera everywhere i go to get a snapshot of something funny, interesting or hectic.. i use the phone camera sooooo many times... for proof (business), fun, accidents, whatever... its in your pocket...

just my opinion...

another quick post... getting a new car today with an auxillary jack in the radio... i think i am correct in saying that i need a male to male auxillary cable to be able to play sound and crap from my x1 to the car radio...

also, the car is coming with a bluetooth handsfree kit... what are the chances the kit plays in the car speakers, and i can maybe stream my audio through the bluetooth?

Yea that's a nice thing to have but it still has to functions as a phone... It still has to maintain it's power so you can use it. I don't mind if the phone is really a tiny bit bigger coz of lets say 2 batteries and not 1 because at least it will last longer... That's my main problem.. I did read a lot about the X1 and like any other phone these days they recommend charging it overnight... Really what if the power goes out? Then you are without a phone???

The Other stuff in a phone is nice and really handy but imagine it wasn't there... How long will the phone actually work :-)

The problem is that they design the phone to do everything and not a main thing.... But yea... If I was smart enough I could build my own phone (lol... but I ain't, lol..) Maybe 1 of these day they will actually have the total backside of the phone reserved for lets say 2 nice batteries :-)

UPDATE: I did download a 2MB file and it was on standby all night. I also talked about 15 min just before I went to bed. 3 Alarms was set and the battery has lost 1 block for now. Will update in another hour or 2 or around 12, lol....

Hi NickSA...

I drove a Yaris the other day with bluetooth... I don't know if you can actually stream the stuff... Would be cool :-) Maybe google it a bit...

And yes, a male to male 3.5mm jack should do the trick on the aux.... Let us know if you find something about the streaming...

My old-mans new SS came with a BT radio. Just pair the two together, then when you climb in the car, the phone connects to the radio. He has a 6110 Navigator, but it should work with any phone that has handsfree profile.
