The Starfield thread

Personally Could care less about farming skills. In fact, I avoid the main quest line like the plague. More interested in exploring and doing sidequests.....

Will do the whole skill-up/main quest thing once I get bored or stop finding new things.

Thanks for this. I will watch that tonight. I think I have come to terms with grinding in one way or another.

I found that space battles give the most xp quicker, and planet/moon discovery and scanning.

I am now seeing how great putting points into astronomy and scanning is paying off. finally. The ability to scan planets/moons without having to visit them individually is NEXT level.

My main quest is on the Hya step (UNITY). Has been for a week now :)

I am a bit bleak that I didn't dump points into the scanning stuff. What I also didn't realise is how close you have to get to some things to scan stuff. But the whole land on planet and run around for hours on end trying to scan stuff to 100% the planet is an absolute pain.

(Mantis) Razorleaf has shielded cargo.

Another thing I missed when that was my main ship. I discovered it so late after complaining to some friends that I kept on getting busted with contraband. You see what gets me is you go deep into a mission and along the way you are picking up all sorts of things. By the time you get out, the contraband is forgotten - until the cops remind you of it. On the flip side, it does save a loading screen or two because it's kind of like fast traveling to the planet if you get busted :D

h me till I flog it.

I use my companions as mobile cargo bays. Problem is they tend to disappear when I want to sell what they are carrying.

No thanx... I carry ALL my loot with me till I flog it.

'Can't fast travel due to over encumbered' would cost me a controller and monitor.
I literally made an outpost to be a container terminal.

Has anyone found a way to skill up quicker than doing main missions?

And I'm not talking about the usual youtube things where you go to that planet and farm resources.

I am in this position where I only have some potato missions, activities, and what's left of the main story line to complete. But it would be nice to have skilled up a bit before finishing the main part of the game.

But hells bells, the grind to get skillpoints is such a buzz kill.
Can always go hunting. If you find high-level creatures that aren't hard to kill and aren't super aggressive, they make for a good xp farm. Can get you around 50-100+xp per kill.

Two good options:

- Foxbats on Schrodinger III in the Schrodinger system
- Flocking Nautiloos Filterers (squid-like flying aliens that cluster together) on Strix I in the Strix system

*edit*

A reminder: if you have a companion, sleep (even if just 1 hour) to get a 10% xp boost for a time before setting out to get xp. Once you get married, that becomes 15%.

Think we need a thread for the other game mode in Starfield. ie. Photo Mode
Like this awesome thread here?

Any tips for the 'First to Fight, First to Die' mission under the Freestar Collective faction?

When travelling to Arcturus and getting ambushed by the mercenary patrol ship's, they kick my arse. Only have the Mantis ship and the starting ship. What upgrades can I do to beat these guys?

You need skill or you need companions.... Maybe.

Having companions assigned to your crew on your ship helps, as they provide buffs to various skills depending what you have.

If you're struggling with ship combat, upgrade shields and weapons. Auto Turrets/Lasers/whatever are great if you don't want to steal ships and just kill them.

I eventually relinquished, as with every other Bethesda game I disabled carry weight limits.

What really got me in this one, even with containers, companions, ships and the nicest penthouse on the city, I still had no place to store stuff...and no I'm not talking pencils and styrofoam cups.

Starfield seems ok but I can see why reviews aren't exactly glowing. I keep comparing it to Mass Effect and end up disappointed. Truth be told I generally don't like most of Bethesda's RPGS - it's true that they have a lot of freedom and flexibility in how you can play them, but the plot, characters and overall storyline usually just don't seem interesting and it's the same with this game too.

Finish the main quest line, start NG+, tell Constellation to get lost, never speak to them again.

Until the next time you can tell them to get lost.

It's very satisfying.
I just tolerated them until I completed Sam's side quest, then quickly unassigned them from the ship. Have no idea where they are now, probably the lodge...

Must be from South Africa...

Are they hunting you because of Trait you have, or mission/quest related?
Level 44 now and I haven't had a run in with bounty hunters.
It's the Wanted trait that I selected in the beginning of the game.

Best trait ever, nothing like getting loot delivered to you. Just the space ship battles are a bit iffy, but I need to work on the flight skill for that one.

Found a new xp farm option that's way more efficient than crafting, ship battles or even hunting random wildlife on planets if anyone's interested. Useful for alt. play-throughs/experimentation/post-game levelling etc.

It will only work for people who are somewhat high level already (35-40+) because you need to be able to jump to Pyraas VIII-A in the Pyraas system, and have the third level Magazine and Battery mods unlocked.

Essentially:

- Get a Coachman shotgun, modified with Hornet Nest ammo (turns regular caseless shotgun ammo into mini cluster explosions)
- Get lots of ammo for it
- Go to Pyraas VIII-A in the Pyraas system
- Build an animal husbandry facility (it will spawn the native spider-bug things that aren't hostile unless attacked)
- Shoot in between the facility's console and the door
- All 4 spider-bug things die, plus husbandry facility explodes
- 500-1000xp per shot
- Repair the facility at the door, which instantly respawns the spider-bugs
- Rinse repeat
- ?????
- Profit!

Personally, I am going the go-slow route. Only @ Level 55 and too busy enjoying the stories.

See no benefit to power leveling. Got most of the primary traits, albeit only at level 1, and only have Security, Starship Design and Piloting maxed out.

Also does help that I did not progress too far into the main quest line.
