The Super PSP Thread

Hi guys,

I have a question regarding a bricked psp. I bricked my sister's psp while trying to downgrade a version 2.80 to 2.71. Its a 1007 model, non ta082 model.
Sony want R1300 excl Vat and they will swap it for me ( it was bought in Dubai, if you brick a 1004 model and if its not under warranty, you can hopefully swap it for R650 excl VAt ).

Anyway my question is that Hi-fi corp sells the so called non official psps. They charge 170 to try and repair it. Do you guys think it would be possible for me to take my bricked psp to Hi-fi corp, explain to them that while I was doing an official upgrade I had a power failure and it no longer switches on. Hopefully, they understand what it means and then is it possible that Hi-fi corp can re-flash the motherboard and hopefully get the psp working again. I would assume that if they can flash the motherboard there must be some charge on this, which I think could be a lot less than ICSS.

Does anyone think this can work ?

Your sister must love you very much for doing that. I doubt that Hi-Fi Corp will be able to do anything for you. I very much doubt that they flash PSP's either. To my knowledge, SONY is the only company that can flash their hardware, seeing as you need the PSP's software to do that, and no one else owns a copy of the PSP's software. The updates which you download are just that, updates, and not complete versions of the PSP software.

So I guess you are out of luck, and if you do have it repaired for R1300, then you will most likely get the latest firmware, ie 3.11 installed on the PSP.

Cut you losses and sell off parts of the PSP, and get a new one. dablakmark is looking for a battery.

yes Kevin. I did call u earlier today.

To anyone thats interested, I have a mint condition bricked psp. I am only selling the entire gadget, if anyone wants it for spares, make me an offer at [email protected]

Battery included + power cables + manuals + demo umd.

slick nick, sis was not mad. I found a second hand unit for R1200, very new. Some chic had it as a present from the UK and wanted to get rid of it. Successfully installed 3.03OE-C on that as well as my current one.

I think I had a bad installer on the one that bricked.

hi fi corp cannot repair it,it gets sent away to sony.what they do is like the playstation, gets sent to uk or get swaspped out.Ers in milnerton will maybe help you with this psp,

i think the problem was downgrading from 2.80 to 2.71
i dont think its possible
safest way is up to 2.80, then down to 1.5 then up to 3.03 OE-C

It bricked while trying to go from 2.80 to 2.71.
I was using a downdater and instructions from 00mph from psp hacks. I found the downdater on a dvd I had received a few months ago...Kevin, I had your downdaters as well, I was being stupid and forgot about your ones, which from previous experience, I completely trust.

I had run the downdater and it had copied over some files to my root directory ( can't remember the exac files now ). I then had to install the latest eloader whihc also had xloader. I then went into the photo menu to try and run xloader, but nothing happened with it. The instructions said load xloader. I went to the eloader file and that loaded and went into the program.

Once the program loaded, it asked me the usual questions and it did a check to see of I had a non ta082 mboard. As soon as that finished, it started doing sumthing and then gave me an error that the psp needed to be restarted. The progress bar was not even 1%. When I tried restarting the psp, just the green light switched on for about 15 seconds and nothing. Reading from the forums, this means its bricked.

Blackmark8, with regard to your questions. The psp is less than 4 months old. It was purchased in Dubai sometime in December. Its a 1007 model. It was only used mostly in January so I would put the number of hours on the battery at about not more than 20 hours. I cannot tell you what I am asking for it. Make me an offer, but I will first try Hi-fi corp and have a look at what they tell me. Its worth a chance or my other option is to open it up myself and apparently there is a battery on the mboard. I will try and disable that and see if I have any success in getting it to work.

Does anyone know of somone working for ICSS ? They are the official Sony psp repair agents in Durban. I can get my hands on a machine that can flash the motherboard, however the eboots that we update are just updates and not the entire software for the psp. To get it to work again, I think the entire flash would have to be re-installed.

Yup you will have to reflash the flash again. Which means you will have to use the flash of a perfectly working PSP, and use that to get the data from. I don't know how viable that option is, or if you will be able to do it though.

no its not possible,as the psp nandflash chip is messed up,the downdater removes files from flash 0 and patches info to it,In playerz psp this has done it halfway, therefore a full brick.the only way to fix this psp is to get a undiluted platinuim flash chip from america, and solder it on the motherboard, then reflash the old one and use the aftermarket chip as a flash0 and flash1(registry files).
what i am trying to say is that this psp is as dead as disco. And if you want to buy this other flash chip, you can but to spend 1000 rand and shipping is not gonna be viable .So both ways your Fu#$@ed.
I am willing to buy it for my personal use.
I think i can maybe fix it with the software that i have but i doubt it,I do have another friends psp that a brick, and i have been busy with it for 2 weeks now and still i have not fixed it.So playerz i gave you my offer, its upo to you now

ok, so a friend saw my PSP and bought himself one. it is version 2.00. Can I use the same easy installer that I used on my 1.5? (to get it to 3.03 OE-C).

Is this Downgrader ok?
http://skattertech.com/2005/09/downgrade-psp-v20-to-v15/

Or do you have a link to an easy downgrader, like the easy updater I used? Anything would be appreciated. I am going to inform him of the risks again before we do it, but if you have a trustworthy source we can dl from I would appreciate it. I just need to get from 2.00 to 1.5. Because I will use the same updater from 1.5 to 3.03OE-C

go to psp-hacks.com/downloads/downgraders and get a file there called mph 2.0 to 1.5 downgrader also read the readme first that come with the mph2.0-1.5 downgrader, and then when its 1.5 then do the normal thing that you have been doing.
or you can update to 2.6 or 2.71 and download a downgrader for 271 to 1.5
but in my personal expierience and that is nearly 3 years with psp stuff,i will do the mph 2.0-1.5 downgrader.this gives a very clean and neat 1.5 registry.
link www.psp-hacks.com.
never go to other sites .there are only like 10 sites in the world(english ones thats a good souce for hacks for psp

playa-r, ask next time before you try downgrade. always read up about it. I have never heard of someone downgrading from 2.80 to 2.71.
you said you can get a machine that re-flashes? well, If I was you, I would get that machine and then maybe import the program from somewhere, you could make some money with that. Also, I heard that, when you install the undiluted platinuim flash chip, you can unbrick the psp by fixing the original flash, then you could even take off the undiluted platinuim flash chip and use it as per usual. If you came right with this, you could unbrick other people's PSP's.
Let me know if you want me to find out more info.

ok kevin you have your facts in a tumble there, first you have to solder it to the motherboard, which is no great feat. You can put this chip on the board then use that flash chip for the psp,but fixing another flash from sony is playing with fire.It is possible but there are but a handfull of guys that can do this.
