Maruti Suzuki is celebrating yet another milestone as sales of the popular Dzire compact sedan crossed the 3 million mark.
The Dzire was first introduced in 2008. Since then, there have been four generations of the compact sedan. It has been the highest-selling sedan in India and was the best-selling car in CY2025.
The car has received regular updates over the years. Maruti introduced an automated manual transmission (AMT) in the second-generation Dzire.
The third generation was offered in the new top-spec Z+ trim that came with features like LED projector headlamps, SmartPlay infotainment system, and two-tone alloy wheels.
The latest iteration of the Dzire was introduced in November 2024. It is powered by the new Z-series engine and comes loaded with advanced features and tech.
The 4th-gen Dzire gets a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and smartwatch connectivity as well as safety features like 6 airbags, ESP, ABS, Hill Hold Assist, and more.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has become the best-selling car in India in FY2026. It topped the sales chart with total sales of 2.3 lakh units.
Maruti Suzuki’s share in the sedan segment grew from 45.8% in FY2017 to 57.2% in FY2026, at a time when SUVs have grown in popularity. SUVs accounted for 66% of the overall passenger vehicle market during the fiscal year.
Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer – Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki, said, “Our sedan segment share was 45.8 percent in FY2017; today, it stands at 57.2 percent. At a time when SUVs are ruling the roost, with models being launched one after another and gaining volumes, a sedan emerging as the number one model is a significant achievement. It shows there are still customers who prefer sedans.”
The Dzire is the only sedan in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio. According to Banerjee, many Ciaz customers are upgrading to SUVs or MPVs, while some are considering the Dzire.
Maruti Suzuki recorded its highest-ever sales of 24.23 lakh units in FY2026. It includes over 18.61 lakh units sold in the domestic market and exports of around 4.48 lakh units.
