Many, many years ago the Minister of Transport was asked in Parliament about the quality food on SAA flights as the MP felt that it was not up to standard. The Minister asked in return: "Wil jy vlieg of wil jy vreet?"

If your smart phone can do all the tricks why is the infotainment centre so important? A USB port and Bluetooth is all I really need.

The newer infotainment systems Allow the user to also change vehicle settings and customise their vehicle's functions.

The aftermarket systems cannot do this .

That’s for you. Limited functionality all good & well. In 2018 folks demand proper tech in their cars.

What makes an Infotainment half-arsed and what does an Infotainment have to do in order for it to be full-arsed?

I repeat my question because I'd like to what I'm losing out on with a radio/cd system with a bluetooth connection and usb port so that I can connect my tablet or smart phone?

Sorry for the late reply ou pal. Been a busy few days.

The way I see it is Suzi SA does infotainment one of two ways:

- The extremely basic monochrome infotainment system that you find even in expensive vehicles like the Vitara.

- Or a proper information system (ie. Generally a big colour touch screen) on vehicles like the Baleno; offered optional on the Ignis & I am very sure on the new Swift. My gripe with it? It's a 3rd party Pioneer system. The same thing you can buy at Autostyle. Other countries like Euro-land & Aussie-land have a proper OEM version that include CarPlay & Android Auto.

Why is this an issue? As it's 2018. Folks (vast majority) want infotainment tech in their car. When all the (example Swift competitors) have a OEM-developed large colour touch screen Suzi SA offers a 3rd party jobbie. An OEM jobbie will almost always offer more functionality & as well visually just look better.

Think come resale time. You want the car with a basic infotainment system or one that has the additional functionality? Not saying that an infotainment system is the only deciding factor when purchasing a car! Lol

I hope this shares some insight.

You don't have to agree with my opinion but I will tell many more folks will agree with my pov vs perhaps your different pov on this matter

This is SA and it happens with 90% of the cars we get, go look at Hyundai and Kia, rest of the world, carplay apple blah blah. Here silly little aftermarket jobbie.

Not sure why you get your stats from bud. Yes CP & AA are optional on a number of new cars offered here but show me proper examples where local models are offered a 3rd party infotainment system jobbie as oppose to an OEM one? Only two I think of is Suzi SA & Hyundai (Sunday) SA.

A friend of mine has been looking for the last couple of months, the only ones that had it definitely were the Peugot and Opel models. Hyundai advertised it for international models, Mazda has been promising it's coming, Ford I think might have it not sure anymore, Haval doesn't, Kia doesn't, Nissan doesn't. He ended up getting the 3008 which is a really nice car. If the others do offer Carplay it might only be on the really really expensive models.

That's all nice & well but I don't think you are getting my point. My point was not about CP & AA but about the fact that only local Suzuki & (seemingly Hyundai) models offer a 3rd party infotainment system as oppose to an OEM one you get in other parts of the world.

Ah missed that, yeah they might be OEM. I didn't personally see them as he was test driving them, think he was getting frustrated with the lack of Carplay in SA :-)

Lol no worries. For the record depending on what segment you taking CP & AA is not all that prevalent.

All Fords that have Sync 3 have CP & AA as standard. Most of the 2017 onwards VW & Audi models have it as an option. 2017 Kia models (Rio & Picanto) have CP & AA as standard. To name a few.

Double check the Kia, as he did go test drive a Sorento and a Sportage and they didn't have CP or AA, he also test drove a 4.2l V6 Ford Ranger that didn't have it, but I think it was a 2017 demo. My dad just got a really new Polo I'll check his radio out, think he has AA.

What you'll like:

I wanted to buy a Toyota Etios, but I've been convinced that a Suzuki Swift is way way better, since the built quality of the Etios is terrible and will fall apart.
