I think you are right, also think it's a genius idea from Suzuki, it stands a much better chance stealing sales in that segment.
The Swift was their best selling car IIRC, they just need to maintain that momentum with good pricing and market the Baleno agressively to fight the big boys.

For context poverty spec model is 20k NZD (~R175k) before on road cost.
Next model (like our model here) is 23k NZD (~R200k).
Still a huge amount cheaper than SA:

Would love to see a real comparison between the Swift 1.2 GL and Polo Vivo 1.4 Trendline , especially on the fuel economy and value for money factor. Let's see what specs the Swift gets.

Why would they omit anything vs the outgoing model? It's an all new model. Not a Polo into Polo Vivo move.
The question to ask is what did they omit from the Euro models to stick to a relatively low price point locally.
Then take the same q but pose it to the Indian-spec car.
Off hand we can see the smaller rubber, manual aircon & the Infotainment system.

New Suzuki Swift is here: SA prices & specs
Suzuki will officially launch its all-new, and spunkier-looking Swift in South Africa next week, but prices and specifications for the five-door hatchback models have become available ahead of time.
As before the hatch is offered in three 1.2-litre variants:
The range kicks off with a 1.2 GA base model at R159 900, which is R2000 more than the previous version. The 1.2 GL retains its previous list price of R175 900, but according to dealers that we spoke to there is a launch special of R169 900 for the manual model. The GL will also be available in automatic guise, at R189 900.
A new version of the Dzire sedan will be available too.
The 1.2-litre normally aspirated petrol engine produces 61kW and 113Nm, which is 2kW less than before, but the new Swift more than makes up for that with a kerb weight that’s about 85kW lighter - tipping the scales at a paltry 875kW.
Built on Suzuki’s new ‘Heartect’ platform that also underpins Ignis and Baleno, the 2018 Swift is actually 10mm shorter than its predecessor, but the all-important wheelbase grows by 20mm and better packaging sees the boot capacity grow by 54 litres to a truly decent 268 litres.
All models in the range are well stocked, featuring all the basics like aircon, remote central locking, power steering and dual airbags. The base version does look a little skimpy, however, with its plain steel wheels, and the budget model is also missing a radio.

Man, that is a real stupid move by Suzuki SA. I can't believe that their marketing team could ever put such a stripped down abortion on the floor.
The only thing going for it, is that as sure as shyte, it'll never be stolen.
Is there another passenger car that is sold without a radio?
I think that Suzuki are also the only idiots who sell a bakkie that does not have a heater.

We have local pricing for the new Suzuki Swift and DZire
The fourth-generation Suzuki Swift is set to launch in South Africa in June 2018, and we have pricing for the new hatchback as well as for the DZire-badged sedan (the latter left the local market at the end of 2017).
As before, the hatch line-up will comprise three derivatives, each powered by a naturally aspirated 1,2-litre petrol engine. Interestingly, peak power for this four-cylinder unit is down two units to 61 kW, while maximum torque is unchanged at 113 N.m (although available slightly lower in the rev range at 4 200 r/min).
A five-speed manual gearbox ships standard, although the GL-spec model is available with an automatic transmission. The DZire sedan range mirrors that five-door hatch line-up, offering the same specification levels and powertrain options.
Pricing starts at R159 900 for the 1,2 GA hatchback (an increase of R2 000 over the outgoing model), while the 1,2 GL is R1 000 dearer than before at R175 900. The automatic version of the GL, interestingly, is actually R2 000 cheaper than before, at R189 900. In DZire sedan guise, the 1,2 GA comes in at R161 900, the 1,2 GL at R177 900 and the 1,2 GL auto at R191 900.
No confirmation yet on when the new Swift Sport (which has gained a 1,4-litre turbocharged petrol engine) will join the local range…

I currently drive a 2010 Ford Figo 1.4 petrol car, and its Gross Laden Mass is 1490kg. Now, the new Suzuki Swift's total mass is 1365kg. My question is, won't my car simply tip over when a high speed heavy truck drives pass me on a highway?
