The Al-Nusra Front in Syria has started a major offensive. The terrorists resumed artillery barrages on residential areas of Aleppo. More than 270 civilians were killed in recent assaults by the terrorist group and its allies.

Despite the onslaught, Western powers are asking Moscow to end its bombing raids against Al-Nusra over fears so-called “moderate opposition” forces located among them, could also be hit.

:wtf:

"They are telling us not to hit it (Nusra), because there is 'normal' opposition next .. to it," Lavrov said. "But that opposition must leave terrorists' positions, we long have agreed on that."

In Paris, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told reporters that he discussed the upsurge of violence in Syria in Friday's telephone conversation with Lavrov.

Kerry said the two talked for an hour and worked specifically on "ways to try to strengthen the enforcement and accountability for this cessation. We have good ideas but we're not there yet."

U.S. State Department spokesman Mark Toner, speaking to reporters in Washington, said that Kerry had emphasized the need for Russia to carefully distinguish between the IS and Nusra and legitimate opposition units.

"This is a common refrain, common theme that we've been conveying to the Russians over the past weeks," Toner said. "We obviously all agree that ISIL and the Nusra Front pose a real threat to the security on the ground in Syria."

At the same time, Toner noted that strikes against legitimate opposition forces and civilians only make people "more supportive of these terrorist groups and that is a dynamic we've seen play out in Syria for years now because of the regime's actions."

"Of course we support strikes focused solely on either Daesh or Al Nusra," he said. "But that a greater effort, a more complete effort needs to be made in order to distinguish between Al Nusra and the parties to the cessation."

That i wouldn't believe Baghdad Bob Lavrov if he said the sun was coming up tomorrow.

So... the United States has not objected to Russian bombing runs on Al-Nusra, on the grounds that Russian activities were causing collateral damage? What's there to disbelieve, exactly?

Want to see how easy it is to fake CR@P
Seems to be a habit of the US MSM

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Moore

http://nymag.com/nymetro/news/people/features/10121/index2.html

This work is a largely fictionalized account fabricated by a fellow named "Jack" Idema (identified in the text's forward as "an anonymous Green Beret") who was advertising his services as an "Ex-Special Forces operative" (he had in fact had an undistinguished career as a common, non-SF soldier) to unsuspecting journalists and authors during the U.S.'s initial foray into Afghanistan. He managed to lie his way into the country by tagging along on a National Geographic documentary. Then, after being found out and fired, he peddled his story to Northern Alliance leaders. He is notorious for selling CBS and 60 Minutes II a fake "Al Qaeda training video" as well. Unfortunately, he duped the well-respected (but aging at 70) Robin Moore and co-author Chris Thompson (uncredited) into believing he was the genuine article.

Aleppo bombardment kills dozens including children

At least 34 people have died in another day of bombardment in the Syrian city of Aleppo, a source inside the city told Al Jazeera.

The deaths on Tuesday came amid aerial bombardment, shelling and the use of barrel bombs by government helicopters over rebel-held districts.

Barrel bombs fell on the Salhen, Ferdos, and Jisr al-Haj districts of Aleppo, killing nine people including two children.

51 U.S. Diplomats Urge Strikes Against Assad in Syria

More than 50 State Department diplomats have signed an internal memo sharply critical of the Obama administration’s policy in Syria, urging the United States to carry out military strikes against the government of President Bashar al-Assad to stop its persistent violations of a cease-fire in the country’s five-year-old civil war.
The State Department set up the channel during the Vietnam War as a way for employees who had disagreements with policies to register their protest with the secretary of state and other top officials, without fear of reprisal. While dissent cables are not that unusual, the number of signatures on this document, 51, is extremely large, if not unprecedented.
