U.S. State Department Officials Call for Strikes Against Syria’s Assad

Dozens of State Department officials this week protested against U.S. policy in Syria, signing an internal document that calls for targeted military strikes against the Damascus government and urging regime change as the only way to defeat Islamic State

http://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-sta...l-for-strikes-against-syrias-assad-1466121933

This is how the WSJ put it. How will regime change make the USA defeat Isis in Syria especially when Iraq are still trying to defeat them having gone thru the same USA regime change?

Could someone please explain that. It's not like Syria is not trying to defeat Isis themselves so on the face of it this sounds stupid

It won't defeat isis. Politicians being idiots. Afghanistan and Iraq are both failures right now but it is keeping the war machine in business

The U.S military would snuff out ISIS in a few months. ISIS precursor in Iraq was largely defeated and humiliated in Iraq by 2011. Luckily for them Obama allowed them back in the game by sitting on his hands while Syria collapsed into a power vacuum and allowing them to sweep back into Iraq after pulling U.S troops out.

Saw this on Fox News and thought idiots. They want to get into a war with Russia

It's probably too late now with the Russians there. Still Russia wouldn't risk war over Syria they're after all a paper tiger.

Nobody involved in Syria has the primary goal of defeating ISIS, that's all a second thought. Everyone is involved in their own political goals.

Obama's middle eastern policy is ten fold better than Bush's. Bush initiated a phony war and then subsequently dismantled Iraqs army. That's the only place a finger should be pointed.

Russia failed to heed U.S. call to stop targeting Syrian rebels: U.S

Russia launched a second air strike on U.S.-backed Syrian fighters battling Islamic State, even after the U.S. military used emergency channels to ask Moscow to stop after the first strike, a U.S. official told Reuters on Friday.

The official, who spoke to on condition of anonymity, said a small number of Syrian fighters were killed in Thursday's air strikes in southern Syria.

The Pentagon has criticized the strike near al-Tanf, saying it raised concerns about Russian intentions in Syria and promising to bring up the matter with Russia. No Russia or Russian-backed Syrian ground forces were in the area at the time.

"This was an attack on forces first of all that were fighting ISIL. And obviously that's the first thing that's problematic about this Russian conduct," U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter told reporters, using an acronym for the radical group Islamic State.

"The Russians initially said they were coming in to fight ISIL, and that's not what they did."

Oh please USA, every single foreign nation involved in military action in Syria used that same excuse, including yourselves. At least the Russians got an official invite ...

How about telling your "moderates" to stand an extra few meters away from Al-Nusra terrorists when the attacks come if you're so concerned with their safety ;)

EDIT: Reuters falling for SOHR tricks these days? An anonymous source and then this later on in the article "The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based monitoring group, said warplanes had struck a meeting of U.S.-backed forces fighting against Islamic State in al-Tanf village, near the al-Tanf border crossing with Iraq, killing two fighters and wounding four."

Putin: I agree with US proposals for Syrian opposition

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday he agreed with US proposals to incorporate parts of the opposition into the current Syrian government, saying President Bashar al-Assad accepted there was a need for a political process.

The comments advance Russia’s position on Syria and follow a statement by UN Envoy Staffan de Mistura, who warned earlier this month there would not be another round of peace talks until officials on all sides agreed on the parameters for a political transition deal ahead of a 1 August deadline.

“The US proposal is absolutely acceptable. We must think about the possibilities of incorporating representatives of the opposition into the active ruling structure,” Putin told the annual St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“For example into the government. We must think what rights that government will have. But here we shouldn’t go too far, we must act based on today’s realities.”

Putin said the most important thing for Syria was not for Assad to retake every inch of territory as he has pledged (though Putin said territorial gains were also important) but for overall faith in the authorities to be restored.

So 200 attacks per week is "snuffed out", now?

Well, by that standard, the ANC has snuffed out murder in this country.

Russia bombs U.S.-backed Syrian rebels near Jordan border

Russian warplanes bombed U.S. backed Syrian rebels near the Jordanian border, Pentagon officials say, causing the U.S. to divert armed aircraft to the scene of the strike.

The strikes, which the U.S. says killed some New Syrian Army troops, occurred about six miles from the Jordanian border, according to a U.S. defense official. The U.S. diverted armed FA-18s to the area after the first round of two strikes, and the pilots then tried to call the Russians on a previously agreed-upon pilot-to-pilot communications channel but did not receive an answer.
As soon as the U.S. jets left the area to refuel, the Russians came back for another round of bombing, the defense official said.

Evidence emerges of Russian cluster bombs used against US-backed Syrian rebels

Images and video released on social media support claims by a US-backed Syrian opposition group that they were struck by Russian cluster bombs.

Footage inserted into a Russia Today report appeared to show Russian jets being equipped with the RBK-500 ZAB-25 incendiary cluster bomb in the Khmeimim airbase in Syria.

The clip was later removed from the show, but social media activists managed to retrieve it from YouTube

US and Russian fighters in dramatic showdown over Syria: American pilots scramble to confront Putin's jets as they bomb Pentagon-backed Syrian rebels

The clash occurred between F/A-18 fighters and advanced SU-34 bombers

US pilots warned the Russians directly to back off - and they moved away

But the Russians returned when the US fighters paused to refuel

The Russian planes struck a garrison of rebels near the Jordanian border

Typical Russian underhand tactics hey SnoopyPutinDog?
The Americans still haven't told the Russians which areas the US backed forces are supposed to be in. Can't avoid hitting them if the Yanks won't tell them what not to hit. *shrug*

“It’s an egregious act that must be explained,” a U.S. official said. “The Russian government either doesn’t have control of its own forces or it was a deliberate provocative act. Either way, we’re looking for answers.”

:erm: Dear USA, herewith our explanation as demanded: you are an invading force in Syria, actively supporting Al-Nusra allies ... end of transmission.
