The Syrian Conflict Thread

The US supplied saddam with chemical weapons and stood back while he gassed the kurds and the US blamed iran. What we need to do is focus on the issue at hand. Yea i am beginning to believe you regarding obama, you stated it from the beginning but then again what american president has ever been honest, kennedy? He was killed for being a decent president. So the best thing to do is be the worst liar so you can get two terms like bush and obama :D

Which century are you in?

Because some ex-president did x ???

Well lets talk about Stalin and Putin then. We should therefore judge Putin for what Stalin did ?

i did not say anyone was going to attack. i said that those in the power seats must sit up and take note before attacking. two different things ghoti. get a dictionary.

Don't engage him celine, believe me there is no one worse than ghoti. I can't even see where you say when there will be an attack haha, luckily i am in his naughty list. Very bitter he is :p

Sure, when you get a shift key.

Whats to be expected when the **** hits the fan?

Whats to be expected when the **** hits the fan?

really depends on whether iran, russia and china back up their claims. If assad falls 2 million dead christians, lebanon will fall and considering al nusra hate everyone i would imagine either iran or israel perhaps both if they get the troops. They are the strongest force in syria and would not for one second hesitate slaughtering millions given the tools. Kill everyone who does believe what they do, they do not discriminate. Shia, sunni, kurd, jew, christian, atheist all slaughtered. If assad does have a huge stock pile of chemical weapons aug 21st will look like a small event compared to al nusra gainng control on a serious amount of sarin with means to deliver it more effectively than they did on aug 21. Still not sure who did it but as putin say any logical person and assad is logical and calculated would not gas people when he did. It makes no sense. Only the rebels gain anything from it.

The west should be supporting assad, get rid of al nusra then try get him to the peace table but as long as al nusra grow and branch out the region is in trouble and russia does not want the likes of al nusra on their borders.

Supporting terrorism long term does not work, it may help you achieve your goal but down the road your negligence will come back to haunt you. For those who will tell me i am being anti west i am talking about any country because backing terrorists is not or has never been limited to the US.

We are talking about it because the documents were only recently released. The US regardless of the president or year seem to have the same problems, illegal wars, scandals, lies etc. Nothing has changed since vietnam when they faked an event to get into the war. As usual false flag lead to the invasion of vietnam and the death of 50000 americans and i don't know the number but many of those soldiers suffered the effects of agent orange along with the population of vietnam. the US barely offered what they pay israel and egypt in a year to clean up the soil.

America dropped agent orange over an entire country and on their own troops(yes they dropped a chemical that they knew could have side effects for the enemy and their troops when they were warned the effects were not known. That sounds like the US of 2013 to me. Nothing changes. They will support chemical weapon attacks if it furthers their cause and that has never changed. If you want to compare the US to any other country please do so and start from the false flag leading to the war in vietnam. There is no comparing. I only compare because stalin is gone and hitler is gone, nobody is doing what they did but the US don't stop, 196something onwards, false flags, go read some declassified documents regarding the plan to blow up a plane and blame cuba(fidel)

Yes. Something to watch on television. :(

This could get ugly. But it can always get ugly.
Worst Case - first use of nuclear weapons in anger since WW2, the Gulf and part of the Medditeranean becomes a very bad place to be, the global economy takes a extremely nasty tumble as the price of oil goes up. (Cliche)
Best case - cease fire in Syria, and cooler heads prevail.
Chances are middle ground - more civilian casualties - life goes on as usual, 10 years from now the BBC does documentaries about it.

Thing is - I think the US and UK's options for military intervention is limited. Brown has already been shot down and Obama was relying on the UK's support. And any chance of a 'Tonkin Gulf Incident' (I did not say 911) has probably been minimized as they do nor know what evidence Snowden has that could discredit anything they do. This is probably a historical first.

The next 9 days before the US congress meets for the first time after summer break to vote for or against war in Syria will be used by the NEOCON to do the following:

1. Pump out copious media statements and campaigns via state linked non governmental bodies telling heartfelt stories about innocent women, children and babies who are suffering (tear jerking journalism) to drum up public sentiment against Assad. Basically mass mind control using a humanitarian crisis at the epicentre.

2. Create another false flag event in the country, such as launching another CIA chemical weapons attack in the country, blaming it on Assad.

Nobody will stop to think why the USA is directly supporting Al-Qaeda rebels by attempting to oust Assad by supplying Al-Qaeda affiliated rebels with weapons. The very same Al-Qaeda that supposedly brought about 9/11 and have been killing thousands American soldiers in Afghanistan, Egypt and Libya ever since.

Even today the United States claims it has has 'irrefutable evidence' that the chemical nerve agent sarin was used in deadly attacks in Damascus last month according to Secretary of State John Kerry. The statement is full of emptiness and isn't proof at all. It's no more proof that Colin Powell and Hillary Clinton standing up 10 years ago stating they had 'irrefutable proof' Saddam Hussain had weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

America has lied before an why should we trust them now?

This war was planned many years ago, along with the fall of another 7 Middle Eastern countries who will be pegged exclusively to the petrodollar and be forced to swallow American democracy.

Americans have never cared about humanitarian crisis, They only care about their financial 'interests' in regions. If they cared about humanitarian 'thin red lines', they'd have taken action on many other states where dictatorships are affecting people's lives adversely.

Obama has been heavily influenced by the Neocon fascists who love wars, which keep their supporting arms manufacturers in business. War is BIG business in the USA and arms manufacturers and banks love them too. Where do you think the largest political party campaign contributions come from?

Remember, whether you support democrats or republicans, it doesn't matter. They aren't oppo-sites, they are oppo-sames. Ex presidents Clinton Bush and Obama travelled separately to Dar es Salaam (Tanzania's) for a secret meeting exactly two months ago to the day on the 1st of July. This is where this war action and future plans were cemented and agreed upon. Such meetings where three heads of state deliberate privately far away from US soil is unprecedented.

US Troops Posting Photos In Protest Of Syrian Intervention

As the march to limited military intervention in Syria moves forward, some troops are making their views known — albeit anonymously — on social media.

Photos of servicemembers have apparently popped up on Reddit, seemingly in protest of Syrian intervention. (Since they are not identified, it's impossible to verify they are indeed serving in the military.)

The basic argument is that the line between moderate rebel factions and al Qaeda-affiliated ones are somewhat murky in the two-year-old civil war, so the U.S. should stay away from intervening on the rebel side (even in response to a large-scale chemical weapons attack).

The posters are essentially saying that they didn't join the military "to fight for al Qaeda in a Syrian civil war."

Interestingly, while they can have their own personal viewpoints of course, joining the military means giving up certain rights.

Specifically, the refusal to do things that your commanders want you to do (i.e. attack Syria). The oath of enlistment is pretty clear on that:

"I, [Name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

It's also worth noting that, while some military members may agree with the message of the photos, many don't agree with using the uniform to bolster the argument.
