See above where I proved that your denial about the sources of the claims about the Syrian hospital bombing were dubious. I asked you nicely to present sources and you didn't. Three days later you admit to Space_Chief that you had no idea, but that didn't stop you from passing yourself off as if you had conclusive proof.

Maybe so. I suspect Hezbollah's militias are better trained and have a better idea of what they're doing. the Syrian army isn't doing all of the gruntwork by a long shot.

Sure it does. It means they're confident of their ability to take it, at least. Whether they will or not, obviously, remains to be seen. But I would not find it surprising if it fell in short order. I mean the Syrian loyalists were able to hold onto it without much outside help for a long time, and now they've got Russian, Iranian and Iraqi support to assist, and it looks like the USA's contribution will remain confined to "ammo drops".

Though it will be interesting to see how much of an impact anti-tank missiles have once they reach the front lines.

I can only go by Hezbollah's record against the IDF and the fact that this kind of warfare is precisely what they were trained for.

Do you have anything in particular that leads you to be doubtful of the Iranian/Hezbollah's effectiveness, or is this general "war is hell" scepticism?

Not doubtful about the Iranian/Hezbollah effectiveness, just don't think they currently have enough men/resources involved to make up for the shortfalls of the Syrian army. So i think they will have to throw more into it to be successful and im not certain that will happen.

This is the guy who by all accounts is the one running the show in Syria for the loyalists at the moment. I doubt he would have convinced the Russians to get involved if his plan didn't have a decent amount of merit.

What I'm saying is that once the rebels have these weapons, everyone's aircraft can be a target, and there's nothing stopping the rebels from losing the weapons due to a surprise attack or something. I have my doubts that the USA wants to unleash that particular monster just yet.

Yeah, fair enough. It's just that it does count as a significant escalation. But the Saudis have threatened as much... I just didn't think they'd do it without Uncle Sam's blessing. But then Saudi's diplomacy has been far more aggressive since Abdullah's death.

The TOWS are from the US via Saudi. Any arms agreement has to have an end user certificate. ie. they cannot arm ISIS without it.

Presumably Russian aircraft cannot be shot down if the missile is Russian & vice versa.
