The tech workshop should not be trusted

well when you have no cash then is the only option, I have replaced the left mouse button on my mouse, and reconnected the right speaker on my headphones, and fixed my PC hundreds of times... But for alot of stuff warranties fusk us over....

Agreed. Have also re-soldiered headphones and mouse many times. Each time the cable gets a copper break... out comes the soldiering iron. Saves a few hundred bucks each time:P

Had same experience with Acer - after product (Acer One) was "fixed" HDD / Atheros Wireless issues - still having same issues; I have found that the memory was replaced and the battery - the battery stop charging... (obviously changed it with one that was at the end of its life)

Did not bother to send it back again as it took too long the first time and got it back in a worse condition.

Be warned when sending your notebook in for repairs – remove your battery and memory.

But have learned my lesson, will not purchase a grey product like Acer again.

I always tell my clients - it doesn't matter what laptop you buy or where you buy it from, get an extended warranty and you won't have any problems. Seriously, it's worth it.

Maybe you should stop using Apple products...
I was gonna say the same thing, LOL. Serves him right for buying an Apple product.

It's even more satisfying when you find blown capacitors on circuit boards (motherboards etc.), buy a few new ones from an electronics store and solder them in yourself. I've done this on multiple motherboards and nothing beats the feeling of turning it on and everything works again.

The problem is many of the motherboards a 4 layers. It can turn into a bitch real easy.

I must say, my wife's HP came with a 5 year on-site warranty. We already used it twice, the first time to exchange the power brick which DHL delivered and the second time to replace the motherboard. It amazed me to see the tech change the motherboard and put everything back in about 15 minutes!

well and the clients that I worked with can vouch, here I fixed so many laptops for clients that acer wasint even willing to fix for them and I didint even charge them for the work, you know a client that smiles after the service i have given them, makes me more happy cuz I know this client will come back to me and rather buy from me then some other shady dealer. I only charge them for the part that is needed and I dont even make money out of it, for example Acer told this one client he needs to buy a new laptop cuz the hard drives are no longer available, while it took me one day to source the client one and sort him out.

My Dell Latitude takes 2 small screws and out it comes. Useful for testing different OS's on different drives.

No one buying proudly SA products like Mecer? C'mon now! I've got a 7 year old Mecer that still runs perfectly and has NEVER given any problems :D

so you are a shady dealer?

I can't remember how many times I've cracked open my HP (piece of ****) Omnibook. Never needed an "idiots guide to unscrewing" either. I guess that's the price you pay for looking like a tool with a glowing fruit on your notebook cover.

Good soldering iron helps. The elcheepo ones don't quite "cut it". One with interchangeable, very fine tips make the job a lot easier.

Fine tips! HA, I've used a blowtorch on that piece of **** once or twice. But yes, the fine tips help occasionally.

He's joking, right?

All you need for the job is a torx screw driver and half a brain cell.

Don't pick on the BA graduates. Clearly, if he had half a brain cell he wouldn't have bought an Apple.

NO why would I be shady if I only make 10 Percent on the part I order and I dont even charge the customer for the service that has been done.

theres alot of those so called IT proffessionals who actually Charges 100's if not 500's of rand to a customer and achieves nothing.
