Influential games?
These games sold big and maybe created cults, but not all of them were as influential in gaming as the list suggests.

For example, mirrors edge recently introduced a new style of gameplay for adventure games, very different from the typical prince of persia style 3rd person view.

Left 4 dead, army of 2, red alert 3, they all introduced co-op gameplay, in their respective genres like we havent experienced before, faar more influential in terms of gaming than half life 2 or crysis.

half life sold alot of games, and crysis showed us alot of fancy gfx, but in terms of influencing the path of gaming, they did little in my opinion.

I disagree about mirror's edge - it was a novelty with cheap gameplay, nothing more.

Why is san andreas more important than gta3? And guitar hero 3 more important than 1? MGS4 was NOT an important game, sorry, it was a turd tbh. This is a useless list - only san andreas is counted from the ps2/gamecube era which produced a HUGE number of influential games.

Counter-Strike was only released as a retail title in 2000. Deserves a mention, imo. Even if the world has moved on since then. :p

I also think Oblivion is a glaring omission (Morrowind was also this decade, wasn't it?) And what about the Battlefield franchise?

If originality is a factor, then 'Deus Ex' should be on the list.
No other game combined so effectively the elements of a FPS together with RPG.
A perfect example of a hybrid type game excelling in both genres.

So far I'm underwhelmed with mygaming's editorials. They scored Empire: Total War 68% when Metacritic gives it 90. The reviewer was trying to play it with a frickin 8800gts 320. Then he calls his other machine with an 8800gt and 2gb ram a 'gaming monster'. Good grief.

Firstly, this is not MyGaming editorial, so I am not sure why you are even bringing it up.

Secondly, if you actually look at the comments that followed the review of I wrote of Empire: Total War you will find that many people agreed with the low score I gave it.

Scrupulously fair. I would give it a lower score - I stopped playing after one game, and am not sure it will EVER be fixed into something worth playing. Most of the other reviews out there are crap.

A bug filled mess. Numerous CTDs even on the most powerful computers. A half-finished product released in beta-format without any real regard for the consumer or the industry.

OMG! A true review of Empire Total War!
I for one, salute you sir!

Every one of the points in "where it goes wrong" section I have experienced. I have a lovingly hand-built kick-butt gaming rig too. And don't get me started on the STEAM-only release decision...

A very, very fair review and one of the first honest reviews I`ve seen since the game came out.

You missed that the Campaign AI can`t do naval invasions btw, but well done overall.

Well, I'd give it 98%.

Your review that is, the game is exactly as you scored it. One thing in its favour mind you - it is better than Stormrise. Oops.

If anything you are too kind. Its not an 85+ without the CTD's and such, the gameplay is poor too. 70 tops.

Great stuff dude your review is amazingly fair and one of the very few not full of utter marketing crap. Well done and keep writing!
Congratulations on an honest review. You forgot to add that the AI can't do sea born invasions, they don't seem to know how.

This is just from what I've read though as although my machine meets the minimum specs it won't get past the battle load screen lol.

Great solid review

Your logic seems to be that MyGaming's editorial is bad because it is not always inline with what the mass media at large is saying, which I find troubling. Have you looked at the user review score of the game? It is currently sitting on an average of 7.2...

It makes me wonder about reviewers in general.

As for the PC used, a Quad Core with 2GB of ram and an 8800GT may not be particularly high-end, but it is still far more powerful than what the majority of PC gamers are using.

But I take your point, perhaps calling it a monster was a bit inaccurate :)

crysis the actual game was boring....gave up half way thru. best on the list is def HL2, played it so many times (just like HL).

started bioshock...maybe i should give it more of a chance and play a bit further.

guitar hero ftw! amazing for drunken parties.

yet i still play dota...3 years and counting...just keep coming back to it
only thing that will change that is prob StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3

Is it just me or is there a serious lack of RTS games on this list??

Indeed, a thousand pardons. I was just peeved at a particular mygaming article recently.

Ah the old 'all the other reviewers are buttsucking sycophants' line of logic. Gotcha.

Seriously, it's time to upgrade those mybb gaming computers. 8800gt doesn't cut it these days. :D
