The Toyota Hilux Thread

Ranger is still good, but it's been in the lime light for enough time now. Time to go back to the original. New Rangers look like they are trying to hard to look cool.

Couldn't agree less. Hilux had the top spot for almost a decade until Ranger became the most desirable.

You should take a Ranger for a drive. It will impress you.

The Ranger is an impressive bakkie and the 6-speed auto has a better ride than a Hilux of the same price. That said last one I drove was in 2013 and that on developed gearbox issues a few months down the line. Ford took forever to fix it and the guy who owned it was not impressed, he has an Amarok now.

All bits of tupperware they are now adding to Rangers to make them look more beefed up actually makes it look tacky.

No one surprised that in our local bakkie market its only the relatively old school KB that has LED's?

The only other bakkie is the flagship Amarok Ultimate...& that's stupid money...

I really don't like all that tupperware on the Ranger, they even have some of it around the tail lights. Looks nasty.

The warranty, service plan and service intervals on the Ranger is a deal breaker for me. Much better looking bakkie in any case. Saw the new Lolux in the metal, and it just looks too soft.

What really surprised me in this real world test how much more economical the Hilux is compared to the Ranger.

Likewise the payload of the Ranger is a great deal more than the Hilux.

And then the ground clearance of the Hilux is substantially more than the Ranger.

And then you see the Ranger has that bit better warranty.

I think you see where I am going with this...

These are the two top dogs & it's really neck & neck yo

Ground clearance is usually dependant on the size of the tyres fitted.

The Ranger's running boards are to blame. Replacing with after market would resolve if you need to have that extra clearance

Where's the Hilux autobox and I see they stuck in an extra turbo on the Amorok with a smallish engine.

Still gives good power and acceleration.
