The Toyota Hilux Thread

Just saw one for the first time in the flesh..

From the front it looks pretty decent, from the side is a definite "no thanks"... that front overhang is ghastly.

I hit a goat at over 80kph with my Ranger and even without a bullbar, just cracked the bumper - that was all the damage there was (plastic rebuilders fixed and resprayed in 24hrs).

The Hilux in this picture looks extremely soft in front - pedestrian safety is getting out of hand now!
 
Got my new 2.8 gd6 single cab yesterday. What a flippen nice bakkie. Seems like its light on fuel, more than enough power. I still have to get used to a few things, like the tablet style radio, but appart from that, i really like.

Yes, suspension a bit hard though, but its a single cab, without a canopy yet. The double cab I tested before buying this single cab, was quite a bit softer. I will check again next week when the canopy is fitted. The single cab hiluxes is a bit light in the butt without the canopy.

Die bakkies is al lankal afgewater,net plastiek trim wa j kyk. My brother and dad still drives the 2000 d/b cab srx the one just before the raider,over 400k on the clock still no problem and running and sounding smooth. Moerse steel bumper on the front,can plough a taxi even a truck.

Leather and looks - Ranger (my choice. Also the idle and full throttle sound of the 3.2 gives me a semi every day of the week)

Historic reliability and resale - Hilux

Everything else seems to be very closely matched.

A reasonably balanced review that, slightly biased towards the Toyota, but the Ford is second up, so you're more likely to remember what you heard last (vw and isuzu not so good )
 
Good detailed review & corresponds with what Dave told me last week...being that the KB comes across as relatively worse; it gets last place. Then the Amarok followed by the Hilux.

His 1st place was the Ranger.
 
The fact that the oldest bakkie is still competitive, in it first iteration, is remarkable actually. Sure the 2nd gen will be something special.
 
Ranger is still good, but it's been in the lime light for enough time now. Time to go back to the original. New Rangers look like they are trying to hard to look cool.
