Holding out for the new Toyota RAV4? Well, the wait is almost over, with the 6th-generation crossover set to launch in South Africa very soon, including in eye-catching GR-Sport trim. And Cars.co.za has managed to uncover pricing a little early.

As a reminder, the XA60-series RAV4 was revealed in May 2025, based on an updated version of its predecessor’s TNGA-K platform. Though its sheet-metal is clearly new, the latest RAV4 has very similar dimensions to those of the outgoing model (with its 2 690 mm wheelbase carrying over).

New RAV4 range to include 3 powertrain options

So, what will it cost in Mzansi? Well, according to our information, the new RAV4 line-up will eventually comprise 5 derivatives – with 3 powertrain options on offer (though one seemingly won’t be available at launch). Still, it’s our understanding the new range will start with the RAV4 2.5 GX HEV E-Four CVT, priced from R770 500.

This all-wheel-drive derivative’s traditional-hybrid powertrain combines a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol motor with a small battery pack and an electric motor. From what we can glean, the petrol engine now offers 137 kW (up from 131 kW) and 221 Nm, while peak system power stands at 176 kW (up from 163 kW). Expect a claimed fuel-economy figure of around 4.5 L/100 km.

What does the new Toyota RAV4 cost in South Africa?

From what we understand, the prices above will include Toyota’s 3-year/100 000 km warranty, likely along with an 8-year/160 000 km battery warranty for hybrid derivatives. We expect a 6-service/90 000 km service plan to again be offered as standard.

 
That's better than I thought it would be.
But that 2.0 CVT... eish no thank you
 
Been having a serious look at Rav 4 Phev, but the waiting list this side is 6 months. One of the people in the complex snagged one, and I have to look at it with envy on a daily basis.

Yeah really like the look but at R 800k it feels expensive.

2026 is set to be a big year for Toyota South Africa, with the Japanese automaker’s local arm set to introduce several highly anticipated new products to our market. The latter includes the box-fresh Land Cruiser FJ, ninth-generation Hilux, and the SUV featured here – the new RAV4.

The sixth-generation RAV4 measures 4 600 mm in length and 1 855 mm in width – dimensions similar to the outgoing fifth iteration. The wheelbase remains unchanged, at 2 690 mm.

As we reported in February 2026, locally, the new RAV4 will be available with the choice of three powertrain options: 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol, 2.5-litre hybrid (HEV), and 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

New Toyota RAV4 price in SA

The five-strong new RAV4 lineup is priced from R770 500 for the 2.5 HEV GX CVT to R1 043 900 for the 2.5 PHEV GR-S CVT. The the sole model employing the petrol-only, 2.0-litre powertrain is priced from R799 900.

They start at over 900k (€47k) this side. Its crazy, but I've always wanted one, just ja, 6 months wait is a bit mad, I might just wait 1 year and hope for a 2nd hand one.

Yaeh or maybe a demo model, think its the most popular car in the world so demand is clearly there. Really like the practical interior.

Yeah, I'm currently driving a 2020 CHR Sol, and looking for the extra space, and a better infotainment system.

One thing I don't like though, is that middle console flipping gimmick on the Rav 4.

Toyota used its first ever Matsuri event at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit to showcase and allow the media to sample their new products being launched this year.

Matsuri means to celebrate or pay respect and the company has a lot to celebrate with a host of new vehicles set to be released this year.

We had an opportunity to have an up-close and personal look that included brief driving stints behind their wheels.
