Toyota Gives North America An Exclusive Carbon Fiber Covered Supra

Toyota’s Supra was a long time coming. Now, Toyota is trying to keep the car hot and interesting by giving it special editions. Witness the 2022 GR Supra A91-CF Edition. Yes, that’s its full name.

The A91-CF package is only available on three-liter six-cylinder models, and consists mainly of bodywork updates to the Supra’s silhouette. And as the CF in its name lets you know, it’s mostly all about carbon fiber. This version gets a carbon fiber body kit and rear spoiler that Toyota says doesn’t just look good but is also functional.

Up front the facia gets a carbon fiber front splitter. Along the sides you’ll find carbon fiber rocker panels. And out back there’s a carbon fiber ducktail spoiler and rear canards. Toyota says the body kit increases downforce at speed, which might help for your next track day. Unique 19-inch matte black wheels round out the exterior. The A91-CF only comes in three colors: Nitro Yellow, Matte Gray Phantom and Absolute Zero White.

Toyota Supra A91-CF Edition brings carbon-fibre infusion

As far as the latest-generation Toyota Supra goes, the new A91-CF Edition is the most exclusive version yet. Sadly it is not destined for South Africa or other world markets as Toyota is only building 600 of them and they’re all going to North America.

What are we missing out on then? The CF in its name stands for carbon-fibre, from which the bespoke front splitter and side rockers are made. The carbon-fibre infusion continues round back, where we see a unique ‘duckbill’ spoiler and lower canards. This body kit is not just for show, however, as Toyota says it improves both downforce and overall stability.

The A91-CF Edition also boasts matte-black 19-inch alloy wheels, while the available colour palette includes Matte-Gray Phantom, Absolute Zero White and Nitro Yellow.

Yes, You Can Jump A Toyota Supra 100 Feet Into A Bunch Of Cardboard Boxes

Papadakis Racing explains that a ton of cardboard boxes will actually cushion the landing.

When Papadakis Racing isn’t busy building race trailer sinks, it’s building incredible drift cars out the Toyota Supra. Papadakis’ builds are so clean, Toyota featured one in its latest promo video, and the team got behind the scenes as Toyota filmed a GR Supra’s 100 foot jump.

If you’ve ever wondered what all needs to happen for a car to get that kind of air, Papadakis has provided the answers to your most pressing questions. Questions like, ‘Would jumping my car 100 feet, then landing on a bunch of boxes save it from being destroyed?’ Turns out the answer is: kind of.

The Toyota Supra from ‘The Fast & the Furious’ just sold for $550k

Another stunt Supra – driven by the late Paul Walker – is now a half-million dollar car

A Toyota Supra that starred in The Fast and the Furious has sold at auction for a whopping $550,000.

The orange Supra – driven by the late Paul Walker – reached a high of over half a million dollars at Barrett-Jackson’s Las Vegas sale. “It’s not just a Supra, it’s the Supra, one of the most legendary cars in Hollywood,” the auctioneers said. “A car that started a cultural revolution.”

It’s certainly that. This particular Supra has now reached icon status in movie car history, and this particular example was driven by Walker in the first Fast movie. It was used for a number of interior and exterior driving shots, taking a further starring role in the sequel, 2003’s 2 Fast 2 Furious.

It was originally built by Eddie Paul at The Shark Shop in California, and features a Lamborghini Diablo ‘candy orange’ paintjob, that famous ‘gladiator’ decal running along the side, a Bomex front spoiler and side skirts, a TRD-style bonnet and that whopping, APR aluminium rear wing. 19in motorsport wheels finish off the Supra’s aesthetic.

This Is What Happens When You Put A Normal Person In A 1,000 Horsepower Toyota Supra

That highway monster MKIV Supra is actually hilarious to drive.

The mystique of the MKIV Toyota Supra has sort of faded since the early 2000s. We know that there are faster cars now, better cars. So it’s a treat to see someone still rocking the prototypical Supra — 1,000 horsepower, giant tires, an intake through the headlight — and it being as hilarious and wonderful as you’d imagine.

I grew up with the MKIV Supra being kind of a legend in the car world. There were faster cars, more desirable ones, but nothing had quite the veil of mystery as the last of the Bubble Era cars. Every one that you’d see, you’d wonder if behind the plain face sat a monster single turbo setup, 1,000 horsepower, and innumerable highway roll races to its credit. Maybe I just spent too much time on streetfire.net watching this kind of thing:

The Toyota Supra A91-CF Is The Most Expensive New Supra Ever

All that carbon fiber is going to cost you a pretty penny

Remember that special edition Toyota Supra with a carbon fiber body kit that the company was only going to make 600 of? If you were waiting on pricing for it don’t worry, it’s as expensive as you were probably thinking. Cars Direct reports that a dealer order guide shows the Supra A91-CF will start at $64,275.

Carbon fiber is expensive for sure. Cadillac charges over $5,200 for its carbon-fiber package on the new CT5-V Blackwing for instance. And no one expected this thing to be cheap. The package includes a carbon fiber front splitter, rocker panels, ducktail spoiler, and rear canards. There’s also exclusive 19-inch matte black wheels and three package specific paint colors: matte gray, yellow and white. While Toyota says the whole kit is functional in providing downforce, nearly $65,000 for what amounts to carbon fiber trim pieces with no performance enhancements seems kind of steep.

Woah, here’s your latest Supra with a wild bodykit

Japanese tuner Wald has gone to town on the A90

Remember Japanese tuner Wald’s rather striking BMW X7 bodykit from a couple of weeks ago? Well, it’s now done something even more bonkers, although at least this time it’s on a car that’s au fait with bodykits.

Check out what’s happened to this very yellow A90 Toyota Supra. Wald reckons it has brought a bit of Formula 1 to the fifth-gen sportscar with that new nose, and it’s certainly different to what we’ve seen so far.

There’s also the obligatory MASSIVE rear wing, wider arches at both the front and rear, huge new wheels and Lexus IS F-style exhaust tips. There’s no word on whether this particular example has had its internals fettled, but clearly it’s ever-so-slightly lower than standard.

Why Taking A Toyota Supra 160 MPH On Germany's Autobahn Was Harder Than You'd Think

The German Autobahn may seem like a high speed free-for-all, but it's dangerous. Here are some tips to hit 160 safely, from behind the wheel of a Toyota Supra.

A bright blue Toyota Supra with the keys in it. A wide-open afternoon. Perfect weather. The speed limitless Autobahn just minutes away. This is the situation I found myself in a few weeks ago, and here’s how I took full advantage of it without ending up in a mangled mess of steel and aluminum.

A few weeks ago, I attended German Car of the Year evaluations, and had a chance to drive roughly 45 cars all lined up in front of a hotel in a small town near Frankfurt, Germany. The three-day event was epic, thanks in large part to the GR Yaris, which is one of the most fun cars I’ve ever driven. But following closely behind that hot little hatchback in the area of pure joy was another Toyota: the Supra.

“A Toyota Supra in Germany. Makes sense because it’s basically a BMW LOL,” many of you are probably joking in the comments right now. It’s a fair point, but it doesn’t change the fact that the Supra is superb. I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I do, in large part, because I know a good manual transmission would make the car more fun to drive. Still, when I got behind the wheel of the Supra, it’s actually the automatic transmission that wowed me the most.

Toyota calls it a “rapid-shift eight-speed sports automatic transmission,” but it’s basically just the ZF eight-speed automatic found in damn-near every car these days. The thing is, in the Supra, it’s calibrated perfectly. Truly perfectly. Tap the paddle shifters, and the transmission shifts before the paddle is even back in its original off-position. The car isn’t light at roughly 3,400 pounds, and 335 horsepower from that 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six is only 10 percent more powerful than a damn Camry, but none of that matters. The car is genuinely exciting.

Toyota Supra 35th Anniversary Edition revealed with unique kit

The Toyota Supra turns 35 this year, and to mark this, Toyota has launched a special edition of their BMW Z4 in a silk kimono – the Toyota GR Supra 35th Anniversary Edition. Interestingly, during the Supra’s 35-year lifetime, the Supra was not in production for almost as long as it has been…

Scepticism aside, the pair of special edition coupes will be limited to just 35 of each and are destined for the Japanese market only, from December.

The two models on offer are the 3,0-litre six-cylinder RZ Supra and the 2,0-litre SZ-R Supra. The RZ is finished in Matte Storm Grey with red leather seats, 35th-anniversary’ carbon ornament’ aka dashboard trim, and black 19-inch forged wheels, whereas the SZ-R is available with the same carbon bits and wheels as the RZ, red leather/black alcantara upholstery, and in a few more colour choices – White Metallic, Ice Gray Metallic, Black Metallic, Prominence Red and Lightning Yellow.

Toyota GR Supra Jarama Racetrack Edition 2021 UK review

Should I buy one?

Honestly, why not? It’s the same price as the standard Supra, and if you like the colour, you should snap one up.

Taking the aforementioned Williams and Harlequin editions as examples, it seems likely that such exclusivity will stand the Jarama Racetrack Edition in good stead when it comes to its residual value, so there’s that element to consider as well.

The ultimate car build? Lego, Toyota create a life-sized GR Supra from 477 000 blocks

• Lego has collaborated with automakers like Lamborghini, Nissan and Ford.

• The real-life GR Supra is powered by a turbo 3.0-litre engine that makes 250kW and 500Nm.

• To celebrate 35 years of Supra, Toyota SA is giving away 35 collectable Lego GR Supra kits.

In line with celebrating the Supra's 35th birthday, Toyota has become the latest automaker to team up with Lego to create a life-sized version of its high-performance GR Supra.

The building blocks company has collaborated with the likes Lamborghini, Nissan and Ford with their own models, while also building a life-sized Honda Civic Type R and McLaren Senna.

It took a team of 21 builders and two mechanics – who worked 24 hours a day in three shifts – a total of 5 400 hours to assemble the 4770 000 little blocks. Incredibly, it weighs 1 885kg, 390kg more than the real thing. Everything from the front and rear lights are fully functional.
