The truth about Openweb

The truth about Openweb is being investigated by IS/DD.

Thanks for the update. How did DiData get involved though?
For good measure they should get one of the audit firms to do an ethical audit, followed by a full financial audit.

Remember this your connection with Openweb will still be active on the 1st August if you use it after the 1st 24 hours they will debit you for another month.

I highly doubt this. Do you have any evidence to substantiate it; t's & c's, formally documented notice?

I cancelled the service with them in May, with an effective termination date of 30 June.
According to SAIX userstats "my" account was active until the 7th July; yet I hadn't used the (useless) account since 4th June, which my current ISP will be able to confirm. It is yet another piece of evidence pointing to the alleged account sharing.
Fortunately, I wasn't charged and haven't received an invoice for July at all.

How one can use the account after the termination date is totally beyond me. I take it that none of them have worked in a system/end user administration role before. You disable the account or at the very least change the password.

Dimension Data are the owners of Internet Solutions and handle all legal matters of IS.

I doubt if they would really do anything to Openweb as we all kno money talks. But they might change the rules regarding how OW operate IS accounts as it reflect badly towards them.

Interesting. Lets see where this goes then looking where mweb vs paul vs ispa went...

Complaining at IS does not work..... I'm not happy with the response from IS as they are essentially saying that if you get a @mynetwork.co.za user name you are at the hands of openweb and if you paid R899 for a account or R299 you might actually get the same performance depending on what openweb decides. No way at all for the consumer to know for certain what shaping is applied to their account or whether they are over or under paying for their account. They also allow the ISP to restrict access to userstats.isdsl.net.

Serious loophole I think and it openes the door for ISP's to take consumers for a ride. You are totally at the mercy of the ISP which is totally wrong.

"Good day ******,

We have received your complaint in regards to your account with Openweb and have taken it up with Openweb.

As Internet Solutions, on the @mynetwork.co.za realm we provide the bandwidth and the tools to do the shaping. The rules and provisioning levels are however decided on by Openweb.

This service is not bought per account. So in this case We don’t believe Openweb is misrepresenting IS products in any way. The positioning in the market versus the service level is a separate issue that are both completely at Openweb’s discretion in this case.

The Openweb account manager at IS has engaged them regarding your complaint and they have assured her that they will address the issue with you.

Regards,"

seem I might be wrong. as it looks like OW got their IS account manager in their pocket.

sad.

I'm starting to think that the problem might actually be not completely at OW.

never liked IS.

I guess its time for an ISPA complaint. which can get interesting as the vice chair of the ISPA are the legal council for DD/IS...

it seem I might be moving ISP's again at the end of the month. :(

Sadly you can expect to wait as ISPA don't adhere to their own time frames at all - Telkom is significantly more efficient to deal with than ISPA.

It would set a president as there would be a conflict of interests.

Yes, all companies are adopting the African way of doing things - why do something today, there's next month or next year.

Down payments; the currency of Africa.

How to ESCAPE OPENWEBwith the least amount of loss and financial loss!!!!!

So recently I had to run the gauntlet with trying to get away from OpenWeb and as many other people on this site can attest to. And as you'll be able to pick up from the mail trail that I will add, I'm being forced to pay OpenWeb for another month even though as far as I'm concerned all evidence points to the contrary.

So I decided to do my utmost to ensure that EVERYBODY that would like to GET OUT OF THEIR OPENWEB ENSLA.......... sorry, I meant to say CONTRACT, got to do that simply and WITHOUT CONFUSION.

So follow these steps as it was clearly told to me by ATHOL WESSELINK(OWNER OF OPENWEB) when I phoned him on HIS PERSONAL CELL PHONE(and YES I DO HAVE HIS PERSONAL CELL NUMBER), and laid out in the email correspondence with OpenWeb, to unsure that you dont find any unexpected barriers to your exit from OpenWeb.

Follow These Steps Clearly and Properly and accept that if you follow the following steps you will only pay a further R58 to OpenWeb as opposed to the alternative of another months full contract payment for a service that might or might not leave you feeling like you want to go into the shower to scrub yourself down with a steel brush and turpine:

1. Immediately email [email protected], [email protected] and very clearly request you internet service downgraded to a 1GB GOLD CAPPED R29 ACCOUNT as of the very first of the next month!

2. Post the email request on the OpenWeb MyBB discussion page to ensure that your request cannot get lost by accident or misunderstood by any of the OpenWeb support or management team.

3. Post the reply from OpenWeb on the OpenWeb MyBB discussion page to make sure that OpenWeb cannot, by accident, forget any email statements that they make to you!

4. On the first of the month, day one of your first month as a R29 1Gb GOLD CAPPED ACCOUNT holder email [email protected] and [email protected] and give your one CALENDER MONTH NOTICE PERIOD stating very clearly that your last day with OpenWeb will be last day of the month.

5. Post your email and the response from OpenWeb on the MyBB OpenWeb page to ensure that there is no miscommunication or misunderstanding between you and OpenWeb, and the forum members can be witness to the discussion.

6. THIS LAST PART IS VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE PLANNING TO LEAVE OPENWEB, TELL THEM THE DOWNGRADE IS TEMPORARY(Which isn't a lie because soon your downgrade will become a cancellation)

So after everything, you'll end up spending R58 in total for two more months at OpenWeb, as opposed to R300, R400 or MORE for a SINGLE MONTH

Remember to POST ALL YOUR CORRESPONDENCE with OpenWeb, otherwise confussion can set in(BY ACCIDENT OF COURSE)

There. Just remove or update out the color tags if you don't like it:

They will change like MWEB did when people started leaving and trying to jump the 1 month calendar notice. It's standard. Why people are bitching and moaning about it so much is crazy. If you rent (which I'm sure you are, or even BOUGHT), you need to give a calendar month's notice before moving out or cancelling your bond (sometimes longer). Don't see you bitching about that.

Having said that. Doesn't Keoma own OpenWeb? Or did they shut him up and made him a silent partner because of his attitude towards customers?

Because if you give a month's notice it gives the landlord the time needed to start advertising and making preparations to get the place fixed up and find a new tenant. The same does not go for an ISP. They don't have to start looking for a new customer when I decide to cancel my account.

The 30 days notice thing is complete BS. We should not have to put up with it and ISPs only do it to milk a last few bucks out of dissatisfied customers.

Agreed and if it was such an issue how come certain ISPs not require this?

Because it is all about the dollar bill...

Ironically enough, my SO had been dealing with ****ty service from Axxess for two months now and every time they just closed his tickets without resolving them. Last week Monday he got completely fed up and called their support, demanded his money for the month back and demanded they transfer his line back to Telkom immediately. He got a refund for 4 months, his account was cancelled immediately and his line was moved back to Telkom on Wednesday.

ISPs are taking us for a ride with this 30 days BS.

thanks remola for the step by step walkthrough....will let you know if i pass this stage....
