THE TRUTH ABOUT OPENWEB


1. All accounts get SHAPED and/or THROTTLED to death... Yet its clearly stated on their website you would never been THROTTLED. During the day my speed seldom exceed 40kbps on a 4mb account

2. Only "ISP" that don't keep track of your usage, but LOTS of OW accounts are being SHARED. I got the proof of my account being shared

3. Access to http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/ & http://users.isdsl.net/ blocked and they are lying about usage stats when they are in fact correct and because it was too easy to see account sharing and correct usage, another lie

3. Resell IS, MTN etc products and thus don't need an office as most of their stuff are done by IS etc anyway. Its called "ISP in a Box". They buy "X" amount of gigs per month from IS, MTN etc and manage it as they see fit, thus the endless types of specials and account types.

4. Only got a handful of employees - Leon, Zelda, Leoni, Charmaine. Athol and Keoma the members of the CC.

5. They use various names - OpenISP, Openweb, Myopenweb etc.

6. Committed FRAUD with their CIPRO registration using a false address etc.

7. Not registered as an ISP with ISPA or ICASA.

9. No ability to resolve account issues besides giving out other accounts which are already in use...

10. Blaming Telkom/router for everything yet accounts with other ISP's are working 100%

11. Constant account authentication issues...

12. Their MyBB accounts stopped responding the 9th of May.

Back in the day he use to be so active on the forums! I remember using their 30 GB account back in 2007, could pull over 600 gb or more on that bad boy.

mika1000, thanks for making this thread! I had been contemplating doing the exact same but, I simply haven't had the time...

I know you already mentioned that their accounts get heavily shaped, but I think it's important to add another point concerning their shaping policy.

They advertise it as dynamic shaping whereby the system only shapes users based on the current network load. This was proven to be a complete lie! Their shaping would magically kick in, and ease off, at the exact same time each day. It was like clockwork.. Amazingly, Openweb users would strain the network at the exact same minute every weekday morning, and then instantly stop using their accounts at 11pm at night. There must have been a whatsapp group that I wasn't a part of, whereby all other openweb users would count down the seconds, and then turn off their routers simultaneously. Of course, their accounts are completely unshaped on the weekends because the network is "magically" under no stress at all, but public holidays??!! Nope, public holidays would have the EXACT same shaping applied to it as every other weekday! Exactly the same! To the minute! Openweb's response? "People stay at home and download on public holidays" - paraphrased. Obviously they don't do that on the weekend, because somehow the network was completed unshaped.

It became blatantly clear that they do not enforce a dynamic shaping policy (as they advertise on their site, and repeated countless times on mybb), but rather a static shaping policy. Hence, the network shaped at the exact same time every weekday, and public holiday.

Both their lies, and the manner in which they dealt with these questions, has been nothing short of insulting. I would be more than happy if someone took legal action against them as most of their clients are uneducated in the field. They are being ripped off for a service which is not as it's advertised, and they are too misinformed to do anything about it.

Regarding the sharing of account, I too happen to have screenshots of my saix logs. My account was being used by 2 different IP addresses at any given time (one being mine). My account was clearly shared with multiple other users. These users were traced to different parts of the country, and were connected simultaneously (ie. 2 IP's connected to my account, each logging 24 hours of connectivity a day, and from different parts of the country).

Btw, I wrote my post in past tense as I can gladly say that I am no longer with openweb! I cannot comment on what they're still doing, but I would be very surprised if anything has changed in the last 8 days...

Agreed. But it isn't going to happen.

If these allegations were untrue, they would've had no problem dismissing them when they first came up. In stead, they ignored them, before eventually pulling out of the forums altogether.

They're certainly not going to come here and admit guilt, so they're left with no option but to ignore us. Which, technically speaking, is the same thing.

Sad thing is that you find the ads all over the net when you browsing and the value proposition is good. Unsuspecting surfers will get duped!
