The truth about Openweb

Yeah I won't recommend Openweb uncapped products at all actually and here is why....

I'm using 10Mbps to compare.

Openweb Home 10Mbps uncapped is R349 p/m with unshaped access between 00:00 and 7am

A capped equivalent would cost you
Openweb 100GB capped unshaped R329 p/m for 100GB anytime and uncapped 00:00 to 6am daily
Vox FatPipe 100GB special for R164 x 2 for 200GB anytime unshaped data is R328 p/m
Crystalweb 90Gb anytime and 360GB from 00:00 to 6am for R295 p/m
Telkom 50GB softcap R269 p/m even cheaper if you bundle with line. Uncapped between 00:00 and 7am

These capped options seems like a much better deal and they are pretty well price. In most cases these capped accounts would give you full speed and if not very close to full speed where with uncapped it's pretty badly shaped during the day.

Even if you don't use internet during the day weekends during the day is shaped pretty badly too which means you would need to run downloads 24/7 to actually get a decent amount of data out of a uncapped account.

If you compare how much daytime data you can actually get on capped uncapped accounts are not really worth it even if it cheap because capped pricing is just good atm.

Here is a schreenshot of how a 10Mbps openweb home account runs a direct http download with 15 threads..... Not very impressive at all and if you needed something to download fast at line speed now you would be stuck waiting.....

All that said Openweb uncapped is not as bad as Afrihost but is not good either and I would NOT recommend. Get the Vox special while it is still on.

Well said... I agree... OpenWeb uncapped was useless for me in the day time, I couldn't even open www.google.co.za, it timed out!!!
Heck, I couldn't even open www.openweb.co.za (timed out too!!!).

I tried Openweb due to a good experience 3 years ago but I had to cancel because for so much of the day the service was completely unusable - weekdays and weekends, mornings, afternoons and night time. That experience was nightmarish

I had previously tried MWeb. I cancelled them because they were permanently slow and blamed Telkom.

My experience with Afrihost and Axxess has been good

I cancelled with them months ago and they keep trying to take money off my account so I keep reversing it.
I then mailed zelda and told her if they do it again I will just close my bank account she says I must email cancellations again.
I said basically go to hell.
Let them try it gain.
Will never do business with them again.
Seems isp's mostly are pretty useless with customers care

Me too, Axxess is working out fine for me right now... OpenWeb are a bunch of crooks

I had pretty much the same experience with OpenWeb, they kept taking my money AFTER I cancelled with them, and I had given them one months WRITTEN cancellation notice. I had to make numerous calls & sent many emails to them before they refunded my money. Again, OpenWeb are just crooks.

I will just close the account. They can **** right off. No sweat of my balls.
I have many accounts I don't need that particular one.

I read the 1st page and that is some serious journalism right there. Its a real pity that a user of this forum seems to do more investigative work than the actual journalists of this site. I still see openweb adverts on the main page so I assume the only reason nothing has ever been written is cause of the money still coming in...

Really sad that MyBB stoops to that level

#PayBackDaMoneyMyBB and give some proper write-ups on these dodgy ISP practices!

Huh? What did I miss? Where is MyBB implicated in this? MyBB has nothing to do with the daily operation of OW.

Don't get it.

My biggest issue with MyBB is the selective journalism. Its been proven that there is something really dodgy about OpenWeb, but because there is constant paid advertising on the front page they wont ever investigate this. So Im saying to MyBB, stop being bribed by accepting their money and actually do what this site is intended to do investigative journalism centred around the ISP/IT industry.

Ok clearly im missing something. For me MyBB is short for MyBroadBand, which is this very site. If they have done a story on this could u pls provide a link and if this is the case ill happily apologize. It just feels like MyBB (AKA MyBroadBand) have become a copy/paste site with the same regurgitated stuff, like "best Broadband in SA, Best ISP, Top downloaded X, Online deals, Cheapest ADSL, Cheapest Fibre, Cheapest 3g..." and MyGaming is no better really.
