Volkswagen Amarok (2023) Price & Specs

The new Volkswagen Amarok will be launched in South Africa in March 2023. Here’s how much you can expect to pay for the locally built double-cab bakkie.

It’s no secret that this brand-new Volkswagen Amarok is the result of a partnership with Ford. The Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa will be building the new Volkswagen Amarok at its facility in Silverton, Pretoria, where the new-generation German bakkie will share the production line with its Ranger cousin.

We’ve already had a taste of the new Ford Ranger and the potent 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6-powered Raptor, both of which have gone on sale in South Africa. Now it’s time for the Volkswagen Amarok, which will be hitting showrooms in March 2023. The first units will head to local dealerships from Monday 27 February 2023 for inspections/interactions, with sales/deliveries commencing on 18 March 2023.

How much will the 2023 Volkswagen Amarok cost in South Africa?

The new Volkswagen Amarok will be sold with a 4-year/120 000 km warranty, 5-year/100 000 km maintenance plan with intervals every 15 000 km. Single Cab pricing will be confirmed in March 2023.

New Volkswagen Amarok here soon: South African pricing announced

The second-generation Volkswagen Amarok is nearly here, with VWSA having confirmed that the highly anticipated bakkie range will officially go on sale on March 18.

But the carmaker has revealed local pricing ahead of launch, with the 10-model range priced between R599 000 for the base-spec double cab and R1 105 000 for the range-topping Aventura V6.

The single cab derivatives are set to be launched during the second quarter of this year, with pricing to follow at a later date, so for now let’s take a closer look at the double cab line-up.

The Volkswagen Amarok is now based on the Ford Ranger and built right here at the Silverton plant in Gauteng, but it’s not just a badge engineering exercise as the German carmaker has differentiated the exterior styling, with the front end having been completely redesigned, and the cabin has also been given its own unique touches.

The Volkswagen has however been positioned more upmarket than its Blue Oval cousin, which is somewhat more affordable with the diesel double cab Rangers priced between R486 000 and R953 500.

Volkswagen Amarok Single Cab models on sale soon - here’s how much they cost

Following the launch of the double cab models earlier this year, the Volkswagen Amarok Single Cab range is set to go on sale in South Africa at the end of May.

In terms of line-up the carmaker is keeping things simple with a choice of three derivatives, all powered by a 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel engine with differing outputs, and manual remains the only gearbox option for now.

Kicking things off at R499 000 is the 2.0 TDI five-speed manual model with 110kW and 350Nm, but stretching your budget to R575 000 gets you the more powerful variant with 125kW and 405Nm, as well as a six-speed manual gearbox. Topping the range is a 125kW 4Motion four-wheel drive model at R646 000.

VWSA claims a fuel consumption figure of 6.9 litres per 100km for the rear-wheel drive variants and 7.1 litres per 100km for the 4WD.

While the 110kW Single Cab looks rather basic on the outside with its unpainted bumpers and 16-inch steel wheels, the cabin is well appointed.

All Volkswagen Amarok Single Cab models are sold with a four-year or 120 000km warranty and three-year or 60 000km service plan, with intervals pegged at 15 000km.
