The VW Caddy Thread

I'd be interesting to see its longterm reliability because they must be turbo charging the fk out of that engine to make it drive a caddy around with decent power.
I'm thinking the same. Even the 2.0 tdi borderline doesn't have enough power.

The 2L TDi should be plenty though?

I've driven an Audi Avant with that motor and pulled like crazy, should be a tried and tested power plant.

It's actually a bit lazy. My current company car is the 2.0 tdi caddy, and while it pulls ok it becomes very lazy once you are 7 up. From there my reservations. I am relatively sure it's been detuned as my own car is also a 2.0 tdi and it pulls very nicely, even fully loaded.

7 people up?
I'm not surprised it gets a bit lazy!

But the size of the turbo and the tune will make a big difference and they'd spec the engine in each model varient slightly differently in those regards.

Ours is the 81kw(I think). It's ok in general.

It would, if that little engine is up to the job, the caddy is a heavy vehicle.
I've test driven one this morning, having the same concerns, especially coming from a Jetta 1.4 TSI. I was pleasantly surprised at how it performed considering it's brand new, so the engine will still be tight. I expected it to be very lethargic, but as long as I was mindful of keeping the revs above 1500rpm, it performed very well. On the highway, it kept its indicated 130km/h up a very steep hill. The engine loves to rev and I love the three cylinder thrum it makes. But, should the need arise to change down, it shouldn't be a hassle as even the gear change is super smooth and easy.

Just signed a deal on a maxi 5 seater crew bus tdi
Replaced my NISSAN NV200 panel van so it will be an upgrade for me

Should got a Vito.
The NISSAN was really very basic and not very esthetic but was running well.

Vito/V-class is too big for my needs and out of my budget.

Now if Merc will make a caddy equivalent then that may be a winner....

OK, so I changed my mind on the TSI. I was ready to sign on the dotted line for the perfect spec that I wanted. I took it for one last test drive, and felt that while it really is an impressive engine, that sounds really nice, it lacks the torque that'll make it an effortless (and efficient) cruiser. To keep its cruising speed on an uphill, it's gonna guzzle juice.

So, I'm now looking at a Caddy with satan's fuel. And since I'm doing that, I might as well go for the proper "performance" one with the DSG automatic gearbox, ala AllTrack.

Grandpa came to visit the new baby...
