This (265 kW!) Volkswagen Caddy R360 boasts a GTI Edition 30 heart

The Volkswagen Caddy has long been known for its practicality. However, Reflex Auto Design, a tuning company based in the United Kingdom, has revealed a modified version of the German automaker’s multi-purpose vehicle, sacrificing practicality for performance.

Under the bonnet, the standard 2,0-litre turbodiesel engine this Caddy previously employed has been replaced with a turbo-petrol mill from a Golf V GTI Edition 30. For the record, the special 30-year anniversary edition of the fifth-generation Golf GTI was more powerful than the standard model, with its 2,0-litre turbocharged engine churning out 22 kW more than the original model’s 147 kW.

The Daventry-based company, however, did not stop there and uprated the Golf GTI Edition 30-sourced engine as well. The MPV you see here, donning Ara blue paintwork, now produces a whopping 265 kW and 280 N.m. But not only has the engine been worked on, the Volkswagen Caddy R360 has also received additional mechanical upgrades, such as revised suspension, a performance clutch and a titanium exhaust system.

Spy Shots: 2021 Volkswagen Caddy

This is a first look at the next generation of Volkswagen Caddy, which has been spotted dashing through the snow.

Expected to have a European market launch next year with a 2021 badge, the Volkswagen Caddy will boast many changes and updates. Although it doesn't look like it, there's some work done on the exterior design and it will feature a new-look front end. We're also seeing some similar design elements to other Volkswagen prototypes that have been doing the rounds.

OK, so I changed my mind on the TSI. I was ready to sign on the dotted line for the perfect spec that I wanted. I took it for one last test drive, and felt that while it really is an impressive engine, that sounds really nice, it lacks the torque that'll make it an effortless (and efficient) cruiser. To keep its cruising speed on an uphill, it's gonna guzzle juice.

So, I'm now looking at a Caddy with satan's fuel. And since I'm doing that, I might as well go for the proper "performance" one with the DSG automatic gearbox, ala AllTrack.

What did you end up buying? I'm considering the Tsi now, especially now that a few are available on the secondhand market.

New, sportier Volkswagen Caddy previewed

Next-generation of electric van and MPB sibling, teased with official sketches

Volkswagen has teased a major styling overhaul for its Caddy Cargo van, along with its MPV sibling MPV, the Cadddy Life.

The new version of the van has been previewed with a number of sketches, suggesting it will gain sportier styling. Volkswagen is aiming to target 'active' lifestyle customers with the reveamped van.

No way those sketches are even close

Well if it was some new hot stuff like a scirocco I would get it. But a Caddy, everyone knows it's a Caddy.
That's like putting it on a combi...

New VW Caddy to switch to MQB platform (and gain Golf engines) – report

A fresh report out of Germany claims the new Volkswagen Caddy will switch to a version of the firm’s MQB platform, allowing it to pilfer engines from the Golf 8 range.

According to Autobild, the use of MQB underpinnings (which, of course, should lend the new Caddy a more car-like driving demeanour) will allow VW to fit the latest powerplants and technology.

Late in 2019, VW released a pair of teaser sketches, giving us an idea of the styling set to be applied to the new model (seen here in panel van guise). The Wolfsburg-based firm says the fourth-generation Caddy will be “100 percent new” (which makes sense, considering the outgoing generation debuted as long ago as 2003).

New (fifth-generation) Volkswagen Caddy: fresh teaser sketches drop

Volkswagen has released fresh teaser sketches of its upcoming fifth-generation Caddy, again promising “a completely new car” with “no screw left untouched”.

This is the second set of sketches the VW firm’s commercial arm has published. The new Caddy is set to be revealed towards the end of February 2020.

The Wolfsburg-based company says the new generation of the Caddy “is going to be very different” to its predecessor yet fulfil “all familiar demands”. It will again be offered in commercial-use van and private-use MPV guise, with a choice of two wheelbases.

Volkswagen previews all-new Caddy ahead of February debut

Volkswagen’s current generation Caddy has done a commendable job of keeping up with the times through constant updates and facelifts over the years, but its basic bones, which are mainly derived from the Golf 5, actually date back to 2004.

This year will see a complete renewal however, with an all-new Caddy set to be revealed in late February, and it really will be a brand new creation, with VW claiming that “no screw has been left untouched”.

As logic would dictate, the new-generation Caddy is set to move onto the MQB modular platform that underpins the Golf 7 and 8. The newcomer’s design promises to be familiar yet sportier, with sharper lines up front, bigger wheels as per customer demand and slim vertical taillights at the back.

Expect even bigger changes in the cockpit, which VW describes as an “always connected” internet device offering real-time information on wheels. Additional driver assistance systems will find their way into the Caddy too, the company says, although at this stage no further details have been offered.
